Happy Christmas or Merry Christmas?

So how many of you (Brits) say Happy Christmas, and how many say Merry Christmas? I am just wondering because.......
well, it is a long story. When I say Happy Christmas I am looked at like I am a twit! (I am American). So just curious, Happy or Merry? Or both?
?????

merry sounds more seasonal but some of us Brits say happy!

Merry Christmas is what it is. If you are unsure of the religion of the person you are addressing and don't want to offend them with the "Christmas" term, you say Happy Holidays.

Hope this helps.

tomboy_sports23
It would be Merry Christmas if you believe in God

Merry Christmas (I say this as someone who celebrates a secular version of Christmas . . . it doesn't matter what religion you are, almost everyone says merry Christmas.

But please don't say Happy Holidays. It sounds so overly politically correct. It sounds like you're worried you might inadvertently offend someone with your cheerful seasonal greeting.

both I believe I say happy but with an accent
