Yep, I was born and bought up in Cornwall, went to uni in Manchester and lived in Lancashire for another year after that. Its a matter of opinion but I personnally prefer the South, my house is next to the sea, its calmer down here and a quieter way of life. I don't like the South East like London only South West.

Yes- and I prefer the North . Friendlier people, less ostentatious and people actually smile at you and look you in the eye! It costs less, and you get a better standard of living.

Personally I think Yorkshire is the best place in the UK but it's simply where you feel most at ease.
I moved back to my home town after 30 years away and it was the worst move I ever made.
I'm now stuck and can't afford to move......any suggestions?

I've lived in Leeds and London

London is by far the greatest city I have ever lived in, totally not what I expected when i first moved here 4 years ago...

much better nightlife than even New York at the moment.. London really is rocking... move down here!

ColTheGooner
I've lived in Manchester, Leicester, London, Keflavik in Iceland, Narbonne in France there is no difference in the people no matter where you live - there is good and bad everywhere.

I've lived in the North West and the North East of England and I'm now currently living in London and I suppose it's dependant on personal preferences but I definitely prefer the South

I prefer the North

For friendliest people up North is best. Unless you are English and plan to live in Scotland in which case you might want to get your head seen to. You will always feel and made to feel an outsider.

born and bred in the South, my sister married a northerner and moved up there about 15 years ago and she reckons it's a great move, aside from leaving her family.

She's near the sea, it's slower and she reckons the schools are better, although, anywhere away from London schools are better.

She visits us when she can but is glad to go home, on top of that, she couldn't have afforded to buy a property down south, whereas, she has up north.

My parents are both southerners, but moved up North when they couldn't afford a decent home when my mum was pregnant. My dad in particular sees Yorkshire as his true home. I've lived in a tiny Yorkshire villiage and Wakefield, a little city near Leeds. I love it here, the people are generally quite friendly, it's a lot cheaper than the South and the countryside is both dramatic and beautiful. I do regularly go down South to visit family and I always feel out of place, although I have to say it has its good points. I suppose it's a matter of preference, but I love Yorkshire.
