We're really spoilt because Ironbridge and the Black Country Museum are within easy reach of where we live.
Pick a fine day because it can be a bit bleak trailing round in the open when it's cold and wet.
Ideal places to take kids - let them see how their Gt. grandparents lived.
Blists Hill, Ironbridge, is a living museum. You change your modern currency to good old pennies and can then spend them in the bakers, printers, chemist, pub, etc., at Victorian prices.
At weekends and holidays the cottages are manned by volunteers who will tell you all about the original residents - the 2-bedroomed squatters cottage with real live pig outside which housed Mum and Dad plus about a dozen kids. The doctors, swing boats, cafeteria.
We sometimes take a picnic (climb up past the squatters cottage to the canal) on a fine day.
The remaining Museums are a fine mix of learning centres.
You can't do it justice in one day.
Make a little holiday of it and you can plan to walk along The Wrekin and go over the Welsh Border. There is a good Hotel (with open fire) and good food at Alveley, called The Mill (see web site) which is within striking distance of all the things to see and do in the area. Unfortunately, the Severn Valley railway isn't going to Bridgnorth at the moment - flooding took out some of the line.

Yes. Ironbridge is in south Telford. The town of Ironbridge is so called because of the bridge, which was the first all metal bridge in the world. Ironbridge is part of the Severn Gorge and Blists Hill world heritage site and there are 10 museums in the area. There are loads of historical sites in the area including: The Bridge, Blists Hill open air museum, Jackfield tile works, Brosely pipe works, Bedlam Furnace, Coalbrookdale Iron Works, Hay incline plain and the little known aqueduct at Longdon-on-Tern, north of Wellington. This was the worlds first iron aqueduct which carried the Shropshire Union canal over the river Tern. The aqueduct was actually a model for a larger construction which has since disappeared, but the original model still stands. If you do visit Ironbridge, start at the museum of the Gorge in Ironbridge. For more info on the site see: http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/

Also in the area are the remains of Wroxeter Roman City (Uriconium) near Atcham, between Telford and Shrewsbury.

Also Shrewsbury is of significant historical value for it's many tudor streets and buildings as is nearby Bridgnorth which has a castle and was besieged during the English Civil War. Ludlow is significant for its local produce and excellent eateries (including a Michelin Starred place)

If you like wildlife and a good view with your history, you can climb the Wrekin which has the remains of an ancient Briton hill fort on top. From here, the local Icenii tribe attacked Uriconium and destroyed two Roman legions and an auxiliary cavalry regiment.

Shropshire is full of interesting stuff to see.

Yes, it's lovely. I'd try to go in the springtime. I had a lovely day out there a couple of years ago. There are nice little teashops and a museum to see.
