My husband had to work at the ship yard in Dunfermline a couple of times and we took a caravan up to tour the areas.
One trip we worked our way up the West coast across to Inverness and back down through Edinburgh.
One time we went through the Trossachs and it was so beautiful that I wanted to stop the World and get off just there!
Another time in Pitlochry while out shopping in June, wearing a halter neck dress, my shoulders blistered in the sun. Don't ever let anyone tell you that it rains all the time in Scotland! We went up the Cairngorm just to play in the snow then came back down and swam in loch to try and keep cool.
One word of caution, beware of the midges on the West Coast in June!
This June we went to Edinburgh (our 3rd visit) for the Military tattoo and it rained cats and dogs!
It's a beautiful Country - I wonder why my Grant ancestors ever left.

Yes, more than once but, like another answerer, on my first trip I'd not been warned about the ********* midges and we were eaten alive and nearly choked on the things.
For some reason the tourist brochures don't highlight this feature of Scotland in June, July...

But the people, the landscapes from the lochs to the peaks, the castles... wonderful.

Loved it. I was on an archaeological dig for two weeks with the Scottish National Trust and Glasgow University around Loch Tay a few years ago. It was fantastic. And I once spent a week on the Orkney Islands and had a great time there as well. Scots are the nicest people.

lived in Edinburgh for 3 years ... toured the far north when I was younger and went back last year and did the same ... it's still as fantastic and beautiful and the people are so friendly and interesting ... I love it

I live in Scotland, about 15 miles from Edinburgh and personally I hate it. It's cold, wet and miserable.

But at times I love it and am very proud to be from this beautiful country
