I've been to Jersey a couple of times. I thought it was lovely to visit, but I probably wouldn't live there:
Firstly - you have to have family there in order to qualify to buy property at a reasonable price. Otherwise, you have to be extravagantly wealthy. There are two property markets - local and incomer - and the two are very very different.
Secondly - there's the island mentality (more noticeable on the smaller islands, but still there on Jersey). It's like the small-town mentality only with water around it so you can't get away! The problem is that the local community aren't too friendly to the 'incomers' and you have to be very wealthy to be part of the posh community.
Thirdly - there's no NHS or state education system to speak of - you have to pay your own way or get insurance. You can get support if you are poor from the 'Estates' (the government), but then you wouldn't have got onto the island if you needed it!
Sorry to be negative - its just that being a tax haven there are A LOT of regulations designed to keep normal people out! Enjoy going there for a holiday from the busy life instead. |

I went when I was about 6 I think.
Here is what I remember.....
- I was sick on the plane going over, cos it was just a little one & very bumpy.
- Me & my brother wore matching stripy trousers (fine for me, not so fine for him - pastel stripes!!!!)
- I got measles & still have the scar on my forehead from one particularly nasty scab.
Not very helpful to you I'm sure, but a nice little trip down memory lane for me!
Good luck - hope you get some sensible answers!!!! |

Been there a few times and its a nice place to live. If you want to live there though you have to go before a committee that decide if you are the type of person that they want to have there and if you have enough money in the bank. I think it is all due to it being a tax haven. |

Yes it was really nice. I loved it. Didn't see enough to decide whether I would live there though! |

Been there 5 times on holiday, had a great time, must go back again. whether you like Jersey or not depends on what you want in a holiday, you like it or you don't. I wouldn't want to live there, I imagine it would be VERY quiet after the tourist season. |

I spent my first honeymoon on Sark. A magical place. I wouldn't live there because it is a little too small. |
