Have you guys heard of Wales? |
I found a question (by searching "welsh" in the search box), actually asking about welsh people...
Obviously us guys in Britain (especially my fellow citizens of Wales) know about Wales and the Welsh language, but have you heard of it? (This question is directed towards Americans and so forth..)
Are we really that insignificant? ¬¬ Additional Details Good good, all is well. My large welsh pride has now been satisfied.
(:
I'll still resolve this though. Thanks |

Nice to see so many people actually knowing were Wales is. What also annoys me is people saying that Britain is England and that we are English.
NI'N GYMRY
WE'RE WELSH
We are Welsh first and only British on our passports. Most people in Wales don't class themselves British 73% in fact.
Wales has been around alot longer than England, Scotland, Cornwall and so forth and has a history strenching back later. |

Of course we know of Wales.... they are the biggest creatures in the ocean! Kidding... of course. I am well aware of the Welsh and all of the beautiful singing voices of the Welsh. My last name in America is Davis and probably was Davies -- my ancestors were Welsh. I have never visited Wales, but I would love to do so one day! There may be some American who are not aware that Wales is part of the UK, but most with any education know about your country! |

How about THAT for Serendipity? But that's us europeans, our american friends probably never heard of you guys. Cheers!!

Wales is currently part of the U. K. along with Scotland and England. It is just north of Western England, butting up against the Irish sea on the West.
Wales was conquered and occupied by England in the 13th century. After three centuries Wales was incorporated into England creating England and Wales.
Wales has been called the land of castles. It has 641 of them. Most citizens of Wales consider themselves Welch, but with British passports.
I've been to Wales once and found it to be beautiful. |

Ceri, my ancestors came from Wales, a few generations back. Some others were from Scotland, and another set were from the Swiss-German area, and after all of that, I am the result. I have seen some things about Wales on the Discovery Channel. There also have been a couple of movies on recently about people in Wales. "The man who went up a hill, and came down a mountain" or something like that, was interesting and I guess explains my stubbornness. There was also a movie about a band that was good, too.
Ceri, there has not been a lot of info over the last 50 years about Wales, but some has been forthcoming in the last 10 or so. You are not insignificant, but a part of the UK, and the whole is made up of parts.
I know how you feel, as I am a West Virginian. Most of the USA has no idea that we are a separate state. Most think that we are actually west Virginia, and a part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Back in 1865 at the beginning of our Civil War, Virginia succeeded from the Union so they could keep their slaves, but we, the western counties, wanted to stay free, succeeded from Virginia, and joined the Union and became a separate state of the USA. We, like Wales, are a part of the stupendous whole.
We are Americans first, and West Virginians second, and that is how you need to be, I guess. And you are a citizen of the UK first, and a Welshman second, right? You guys have a long history, much longer than we, I mean, Hastings in 1066, right? Our government and laws are decendents of the Magna Carta and that was 500 years ago! We have only been a nation since 1776!
Have a good day.
Regards,
Dan |
