Heading Over to England from the states for the first time, is there going to be some hate towards me ?

I have traveled to France, Japan, Korea, Australia and got a mostly worm welcome, some people gave me dirty ways simply because I'm American but I've got a tough skin so I don't let people like that bother me to much. When I told a couple of friends (two of them English) that I was going to England for the first time, they told me that I can expect quite a bit of hate (Hopefully they were just trying to scare me). I'm not gonna judge a whole country of people (I know tons of English people, really cool down to earth guys) but they did say that the media makes us look dumb, the news hardly ever has anything nice to say about us, people think our humor is very simple (a couple my friends from England actually used to believe this too until they watched shows like South Park, The Soup, Chapelle Show etc) I am so intrigued by England, I don't want my experience to be ruined by to many people prejudging me based simply on where I'm from. And I gotta say, there are a lot of people that dislike us on this site, not just from England but from everywhere, good to see the whole world can come together for the beautiful purpose of hating of Americans lol.

Haha funny rowgirl, I always rush typing on this site for some reason. ^_^

Where are you going in England? I think the more rural (perhaps) the more likely you will encounter people who won't like you. That's kind of a general statement though. I am American and along with my friend from Germany--went to London in 2003. No hate there, every one was really nice. In fact, I would have to say that people were generally interested in me and wanted to dig my mind about US/World/Political/Cultural issues. It was when the Iraq war started so they were curious. You will be going when we have our first black president, they may want your thought.
Hope you have fun!

I lived in England for 10 months in 2006-2007 and 95% of people I met were kind, and curious about life in America. Most people had lots of questions or would just look at me sideways because they liked hearing my accent! Don't let the occasional jerk upset you. Like most people here are decent, so are most people there.

I'm jealous! I would love to go back to England!

your shouldn't have that much trouble as long as you don't wear sunglasses. sunglasses are the one thing that annoy us about Americans :D

really, you should be fine. thanks for visiting us!

I live in Scotland not England and I was up at the hospital after some neds (chavs) jumped me and the nurse was an American! She was really nice and popular with the patients so people don't hate Americans.

You'll be fine. Of course, the vast majority of this country detested Bush, but we've got enough to sense to differentiate between the former American government and the American people as a whole. The only type of Americans we don't like are the stereotypical 'ugly Americans', i.e. the ones who go around telling us how they think everything in the US in better (we don't think so), how we speak funny (despite the fact that we invented the English language), who speak extra loud, etc. You seem pretty well traveled so I'm sure you've come across them. The minute people realise you're not like that (the fact that you're concerned about it usually means you won't be like that!) you'll be welcomed with open arms.

No, we don't hate Americans - particularly not the ones who have travelled a lot, as you clearly have.

For a while a lot of people had major problems with what the American government was doing, thanks to your man Bush, and a lot of that could rub off on how we treated Americans. Now he's gone, you should find a warm welcome wherever you go.

I cant speak for anyone else but i for one would like to welcome you to our wonderful country.

Not from me!

I wouldn't have thought so, just as long as your not really loud that is annoying in most tourists, not just those from America.

You get idiots in every part of every country on the planet, some of which may act hostile towards you purely due to your nationality, such people are best ignored. I wouldn't expect hate just because you are American but be aware it could happen, the same attitude i take as a Brit whenever i'm fortunate enough to holiday in America.

You will probably find most people welcoming and interested in your way of life, if you do receive any form of hate just think of it as their problem, not yours. I would actually say you will be more welcomed in the UK than the places you have already been, people here can hardly have a go at Americans for their foreign policy for example when British soldiers are fighting alongside them in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Enjoy your stay!

Only hate comming from me is towards people/tourists who wear their houses on their backs and then wade around congested London, at a snails pace, talking loudly and knocking people over. If you do not do any of the above, there will be no hate comming from me (and many others) and cannot see where else any hate would come from.

P.S, its not just Americans that do the rucksack thing ans so not just Americans I dislike- its ANYONE with a rucksack who walks at a snails pace with a booming fog horn for a voice. :)

Hate.. the word exists. an its globally recognised. gudlook.

You won't get any hate! Perhaps the odd comment like - "finally you've put someone with brains in the white house", but nothing worse.
I don't hate 'Americans' as I don't see them as one big group who have the same motives, habits and intelligence. They're all individuals just like in any other country.

A lot of English people do think that you don't get the British style of humour - like sarcasm. That's probably not wholly true.

try not to talk too loudly, wear too many ostentatious clothes and if questioned, say you're Canadian. you should be fine.

If any body gives you any attitude over there, tell them that you would rather live on a park bench in America than be the King of England.
