Hello, could I have some help (re: London) please? |
Hi there. I am going on a train journey tomorrow which entails going through London, and as I am quite a nervour traveller the thought of going through London scares me, primarily as I've never used the Tube.
I have to go from London Waterloo to London Kings Cross on the tube. So when I get off at Waterloo is there a tube station right there? And how long should this underground jounrney be?
Also I have noticed on my itinerary there is no 'wait' time between my train in to Waterloo and the tube to Kings X- does this mean the service is near continuous? How do I know which tube to get on?
I know this sounds pathetic but I am quite a nervous traveller, and I find London daunting, so if anyone could help I'd be very obliged.
Thanks! |

Relax. It may be busy but it certainly isn't dangerous or scary, and there's no reason to worry yourself unduly.
The tube journey between Waterloo and Kings Cross is extremely easy.
The entrance to the tube at Waterloo is right there under the same roof as the overground trains, its part of the same building.
You will need to change trains once, as there is no direct line between the two stations. There are several possible alternative routes but I think this is the simplest...
Take the Northern Line ( the black line on the tube map) northbound to Euston. The lines and the direction the train is going in are all signposted clearly.
At Euston, change to the Victoria Line ( the light blue one ) northbound, and travel just one stop to Kings Cross.
The whole trip should take about twenty five minutes.
The reason that no "wait time" is given is beacause the tube runs almost continually, and you should not have to wait more than six minutes at most.
If you get lost ( and its really rather hard to do that!) , just ask an Underground staff member ( they wear bright blue uniforms) or any ordinary Londoner to help... we dont bite and are actually pretty helpful when asked nicely! |

At Waterloo, go down to the tube. You need to take the northern line (towards Edgware or High Barnet).
Change at Leicester square (3rd stop).
Take the Piccadilly line (towards Cockfosters or Arnos Grove).
Get out at King's Cross, 4th stop I think.
Your total journey should be about 20 minutes, with only 11 minutes actually on the tube (4minutes and 7 minutes) Any doubt, just ask someone, Londoners are alright really!
You'll be fine, good luck! |

Easiest way to do it is get the Bakerloo Line (Coloured Brown on the map) Northbound direction,go 4 stops to Oxford Circus, then change onto Victoria Line (Light Blue on the map) Northbound direction,3 stops to Kings Cross St Pancras. This is the easiest way because the Bakerloo & Victoria line platforms at Oxford Circus are adjacent to each other. (No going up & down escalators to change lines!)Journey should take you around 20/30 mins. |

Get the Northern line from Waterloo to Leicester Square and then change to the Pica dilly line to Kings Cross, it takes less than 15Min's. Happy Travels. |

to all intents and purposes the tube is a continuous service - depending on the line trains run every 2-3 minutes or so in central London |

Northern Line (northbound) to Euston, at Euston, change to the Victoria Line (northbound) to Kings Cross. takes around 20 mins.
there are no wait times because the tubes run at roughly 5 min intervals. |

Oh don't worry, London is a wonderful place and the train net working system and accessibility is rather fine and efficient. There is is nothing to worry or be nervous about: at least, it is more advance and safer compared to some third world countries. After the London train boomings that occurred some years ago, the security in train stations is also very thorougher and tight at times.
Yes, there is a train station at Kings Cross and the journey should not take that long, though its' been a long time ago and a can't remember as to how long it will take. Besides there are also bus services there.
Basically in London, nearly every train station is an Interchange and reaching to your destination means having to change train several times. This can rather be time consuming and troublesome.
London is a beautiful and exotic to a historical background.
The attractions are the big band, the gigantic Farris wheel, the grand-witch, the Barking ham palace, car racing, the swan lake to many more. When you are there imagine Mr. Bean!
The hotels there are rather cozy but the food and accommodation, shopping and transportation is rather costly. If you are alone, my advice to you is that you don't travel to far away from your hotel just in case you can't find your way back; especially if its your first experience. Be aware of strange people as they could be robbers or thieves. DO NOT LEAVE your valuables unattended as they could steal them.
Don't worry, even though you are traveling alone; you could pray to god for a safe and pleasant journey or listen to your favorite music.
Yours truly,
Best reguards,
Jeff. |
