OK, it's been a while, but I think I can remember.

Here's a couple of "gottas"

You gotta go to the changing of the guard at Buckinham Palace, then stroll through St. James' park.
You gotta go to Westminster Abbey, and stand in Poets' Corner, and check out all the great writers who are buried there. If you're into Dan Brown, you should go to the spot that figures so prominently in The Da Vinci Code. For that matter, if you are into things medieval or the Da Vinci Code, you should visit the Temple Church (I think that's what it's called) which figures so importantly into those things).
You gotta go to the Tower, and take a tour, and see the Crown Jewels, and stand in the Bloody tower, and all those wonderful historical ghoulish things. Don't forget to visit the ravens. You know, if the ravens ever leave the Tower, then England is rumored to be on the brink of falling....
You gotta go to Tower Bridge, and cross it on foot, if you can.
And you Gotta ride the Eye, which really should come at the beginning of your stay.

You gotta go to a pub and have some "pub grub" and a pint of ale or stout.
You really ought to go to Madame Tussaud's...it's spectacular!
Harrod's is also an important visit.

Did I get all the really important stuff? I think so.

In addition, you should check out things that interest you. Speaker's corner (I can't remember where it is, but I bet anyone can help you out). A spot where anyone can set up a soap box and just have at it.
I loved the "London Dungeon" museum of torture and dungeons and such. I'm pretty sure it's still there.
Art Museums galore! If you are into art, the Tate, the Queen's gallery, etc., etc., I understand a whole dilapidated part of downtown has been converted into museums and such.
The British Museum is well worth the visit.
The Theater district should not be missed if you are interested in Theater.
Side trip to Windsor Castle is worth it, too.
You could go find Sherlock Holmes' place...It was actually a Pub when I was there. I tried to find his real address, but there was no such number....strange....
Kew Gardens and the Crystal Palace, also well worth a visit.

And then one can't forget that the city is nice to just walk through and absorb.

Parks, markets, shopping. London is a Super town!!! I wish I had time to go back again, but that will be a while, yet.

Have a blast!

someone mentioned tussards? forget it .. full of tourists and very expensive.

there is a book of London walks you can buy.. easiest way to deal with the "obvious" tourist things is a London sight seeing bus.

as for market. try portabello road on a friday or saturday.

Greenwich also has a market, again. errm it's on a Sunday.. there is a planetarium there, also maritime meusum and a big park.

Trafalgar square.. errm lots of galleries which are free around there , tate and tate modern

hyde / regents park

abbey road studio (always tourists crossing the crossing!! aggh!!)

science + natural history museum , i think both are in Kensington and are free.

Wembley stadium, and there is a market there on a sunday.

highgate and kensal green crematory, they do walks. .lots of famous people in them.

if you come to london, do yourself a BIG favour. get yourself an oyster card , £3.. and put some money on it.. otherwise taking buses and trains is a BIG rip off = double for cash.

the west end = tourist trap , I avoid it as a lot of things are over priced.

depends what actually interests you to be honest. besides the normal "touristy" things

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/nav.1499

might be nice also for ya.. blue plaques of where loads of famous people lived in london .

as for london eye , there is also the aquarium there

The natural history museum.. i know what you're thinking... museum... boring... but its really interesting, really huge, it takes all day to walk around it all, its so worth going, even if only to visit the space bit and the earthquake room :P

Make sure you know its an earthquake room before you go in tho... i walked in there wondering why everyone was standing around... and then all of a sudden the whole room started shaking and red lights flashing lmao... ahh.. fun.

The airport so you can get the hell out of there.
