Help needed immediately! What things do YOU associate with the British? |
Helpful sugestions only. This would be especially helpful if it were from Americans. So far people have said tea, bad teeth, and Austin Powers! :) I need a bit more than this! Thanks in advance. Additional Details These are all really good so far! Can anyone think of anything musically related to Englang? I've heard they like to play in pubs. And I can think of bagpipes, but that's really Scotland and Ireland, with not so much England. As far as I know! Thanks again. :) |

Ok, i'm American... and i will say that 'Crumpets' are the bomb! Hahaha... simple but delicious, i tell ya. And the 'Bacon Sarnies', EVERY time i go visit my 'English' fiance, over in England... first thing i'm asking for is a 'bacon sarnie'. To die for....
As far as music, well let me tell you.... The British, are hands down, the best when it comes to musical talent! The list is everlasting... BUT my favorites mind you are:
DEF LEPPARD.... #1 baby, **ROCK ON...
Queen...
Ziggy Stardust/Spiders .. aka David Bowie
Rod Stewart
Iron Maiden
Judist Preist
Sex Pistols
Duran Duran
Rolling Stones
The Clash
Rooster
Elton John
The Beatles
The music talents could go on and on.... The Brits have definately done well for/in the music business.
Another thing.. Footie! Oh sorry, thats 'soccer' to us Americans. LOL Either way, English Footie is making its way into the hearts of us Americans. My team? MANCHESTER UNITED... All the way! GO REDS!!!! |

Benny Hill - best of the best. Lady Di - best of the best. The Queen. Scones. Only thing I find extremely irritating is the accent, especially cockney - it's like fingernails on a chalkboard, or they have a stick up their butt.
Other than that, from my experience, they are an extremely polite
people who try to keep the peace and avoid conflict. I'm not sure what aspect of British culture you're looking for. And I've yet to meet a Brit with bad teeth. And one of the best musical groups - actually there were more than one, which is why they called it the British Invasion in American music - The Beatles! Did they not change the course of musical history or what? And I also associate double-decker buses with the British, and one of the most fantastic tv shows of all time on public television - and his famous telephone booth -- Dr. Who. And I associate certain parts of Canada as well. And if my memory serves me correctly, without giving away my age, they had some of the best flying aces in the war against Hitler. And Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson -- how much do you need? Mercy, if all they know is Austin Powers - Yuk! That's like saying Gerry Springer and his trailer trash is a true representation of the USA! NOT!
Redpillow, you are so right!! How could I have forgotten Monty! |

The Royal Family, Stonehenge, Buckingham Pallace, Cunard Cruise Line (before Carnival bought it out), Tea, Castles, Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper. If you need any more, drop me a line. I've only been there a few times and most of that was spent in Southampton, but I may be able to help. |

Accents, large colonial land holds around the globe, a pathetic obsesion with the royalty (which most Americans are the same way with Hollywood stars so...), involvement in many important wars, an ancient and rich society and culture. I could go on but these are just the first ones. Oh and the Church of England, Puritans, an interesting government set up, interesting relations with the E.U. |
