Truthfully you could use Edinburgh airport very easily if you prefer flying - as there are frequent shuttle buses to the city centre, and the journey only takes about 25 minutes - sometimes it seems a lot faster though. This is their website: http://www.flybybus.com/
The two main train stations for Edinburgh are Waverley Station and Haymarket Station and both are pretty close to the castle - Waverley is just a little bit closer - but only by a few extra minutes. Just jump in a taxi. :-) |

Take the train and get off at Waverly. If you fly, you can take the airport shuttle bus to the Waverly station. I am assuming you have luggage with you, so take a taxi to the Castle since it is up a steep hill. |

the castle is city centre, best station is waverley but the stop before, haymarket is also fine. if you get off at waverley and walk out of the station the castle is just above you on the hill. flying into edinburgh airport is also fine and quicker but you would need to take a bus or taxi into the town which i think is about 11 miles ????
if you get off at the station (waverley) it is all up hill to walk, you would walk up the hill out of waverley station and turn left, at the end of that road is Cockborn st which is a windy hill full of goth shops etc which you walk up. at the top ot this is the royal mile or high street as it is called. turn right on the royal mile and follow this road up to the castle at the end. it will take you about 15-20 mins at the very most. |

Every one has answered your Question for you love I just want to wish you the best of luck on your posting. My ex husband was posted there in the 60s and was stationed at the castle. We lived in Lasswade whilst he was there.
I was also in the W.R.A.C and I was stationed at Dreghorn Barracks before I got married so Edinburgh brings back a lot of memories for me.
I would also like if I may, to ask who the stupid Prig is, that is going down the line pressing all the thumbs down. Does it make you feel good to do that? because it does no good to the outcome of the questions, or the marks. |

Hi, All the best for your posting. Just want to add my tuppence-worth as I have travelled easyjet Edinburgh- Bristol-Edinburgh many times and the service is great you are no longer up and then you are down again! From Edinburgh airport there are very frequent buses to the centre of Edinburgh(Waverley bridge at the train station!) or there's always taxi's the last time I think it cost me £10.00. You will have a bit of an uphill hike from the train station regardless of your mode of transport...why did they always build castles on top of hills....not very practical for the visitors...lol |

The train would be alot easier. Get off at waverly train station. and the castle is just up the hill on the left hand side. You can see the castle form the train station |

Depart Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station on Vurgin Train direct no changes.
Arrive 08:29 at Edinburgh Waverley Station 15:13.
Not too far to walk (15mins) to Edinburgh Castle, or get a taxi, (5mins).
The Airport is much further out from the city than the railway station. |

the airport is pretty far from the castle. you would be best to get a train to waverly station edinburgh which is the main station in edinburgh and is right next to the castle. as soon as you arrive in the station you will see the castle.
have fun |
