I hope you have a lot of money as the UK is astronomically expensive nowadays. From South Yorkshire up to the North Border would be the cheapest.

Good Luck!

Portsmouth, Hants. It's so beautiful. There's lots to see, and you're close to everything, including the sea ^_^ You can walk along the shore... It's lovely x x xx

Try to search for a programme called "Location, Location, Location". It's a Channel 4 show which does a series every year that charts the best and worst places to live in Britain.

Two years ago the best was Epsom and Ewell; the worst was Hull.

It's different now. Apparently Hastings is the next cool place to live. Get a place there before it becomes way too expensive!!!

Fife. Its lovely here. It saves you a fortune on Edinburgh house prices and you are still within easy distance.

It depends on what you are hoping to do when you get here, but you can't really go wrong if you live in the suburbs of one of the big cities, maybe London,Birmingham, Manchester or Yorkshire. Good luck and welcome home.

Hove, now part of Brighton looks like a great place to live. Friendly people, plenty of work due to tourism, commuter access to London, interesting property and such a buzz in Brighton proper. Research available shows that the residents are a happy bunch, only 1% aren't satisfied with their quality of life there.
Also announced today, 5th Jan. that it's the healthiest place in UK, lowest cholesterol and blood pressure levels, highest life expectancy.

I would say East Anglia, as the people are really friendly, there is a stunning coastline, and generally plenty to do!

I moved back to the UK , to East Anglia, after 40 years living in various African countries and chose to live in the town where the most of my family now reside. Being away for a time makes you feel like a foreigner when you return and you need family and friends close by to help you with all the changes that have taken place during your absence, especially the bureaucratic red tape that has proliferated during the past 10 years or so.

Alex
I live in Wales and i think its great. It is cheaper here than England (House prices). I would stay in Cardiff if i was you because it is the fastest growing city in the EU, so plenty of jobs.

Manchester has fast become the London of the north - great job prospects, everything london has to offer but not as unfriendly and not as big!

Also just 20 mins from beautiful countryside and an hour from the seaside

Great flight links from Manchester Airport

I suggest you don't come back unless you already have a property here and a job. Because you will need those 2 things to survive here.

London is good but expensive. Best to stay up north.

Wherever you grew up. You would want some family around and it would be fun to get together with old school mates too!

Welcome back, do pop around, the kettle's on.

depends on how much money you want to spend and what your lifestyle is.

I would steer clear of London, the south east and the Thames Valley if job avaialbility is of no conern to you. most people there say they live thiere because of the jobs...whats the point in that ?

there are still great pockets of countryside in the UK, expensive, but great.

Northern or west midlands, market towns are best. Still lively enough, very friendly, vibrant and normally surrounded by countryside...cheshire, Shropshire, Lancs and Yorks are all worth a look.

It depends where were you living before??
If you are English go to England
If you are Irish go to Ireland, (very friendly people)
If you are Welsh go to Wales(very friendly people)
If you are Scottish go to Scotland(very friendly people)

I moved from the U.k many years ago, best thing I ever did , glad I did not miss the boat, you will find a country in decline, slum housing selling for extortionate prices, a cost of living that will curl your hair, rudeness in the stores ,bad service commonplace.and immigration out of control.
Having said that ,if I should ever entertain the idea of returning, which I doubt, Cambridge would be the place.

Sorry to be so blunt but "The truth oft times hurts"
