Hi, I am thinking about relocating to England to attend Bradford University.?

I'm a bit apprehensive, because I've read such bad things about Bradford. Does anybody have any advise? Where would be the best place to live? Would I need a car? I'm 25 and considered a mature student, Are there many mature students? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I'm from the US, so I only know what I read about these places. Where then, would be the best place to go?

Im a mature student too and would never ever consider going to Bradford. Are you a fool? (sorry Im sure you not, you just have no idea of what it is really like). Bradford. why would anyone want to go there? There are plenty of good unis in the south of the country. It really isnt nice in Bradford at all, and if you do go you will know that I was right. Sorry . I went there once it was freezing and it was late June. Dont trust the nice glossy prospectus, its all a lie, its a dump

My daughter was there last year as an Erasmus student. She's very optimistic and says it's OK, but she wouldn't like to go back there. It sounds dreary, cold and boring, she told me not to bother visiting her, and she knows I love travelling.
I suggest anywhere the others have said. Any London college would be nice if you like the hustle and bustle, but if you prefer a quieter place, Canerbury University is lovely, and near enough to London. Good luck!

Personally, I think I'd rather have something chopped off than go to Bradford. Come to the University of Cambridge instead: much nicer.

A car is helpful in the UK, but the fuel i think is about 4x more expensive in the UK than the US due to fuel taxation.

Roughly 1/4 of Bradfords population is of Asian origin, and its known to have racial tension between working class white people, i think you should definatly visit Bradford before applying there as foreigners may find it quite tough to adapt to.

I would find somewhere else to study! I didn't even know there was a Bradford University. If you relocate to England, a car would be useful but not necessary as public transport is ok. Do you want a campus university or town one?

Check out the university guides below to see which are the best universites/best for your subject.

Ok mate, well speaking as someone who knows the area well I would say...don't bother going to Bradford! It is a dump stuck in a time warp. Yes there are loads of Asians, and lots of unemployed (and quite honestly unemployable) and despondant people living here. The place is an old mill town, with little in the way of prosperity and interest.I don't think that there would be many mature students here mate.
Traditionally Northern England has always been the poorer relation in the UK, with more unemployment and poor quality educational establishments. However, I would recommend UCLAN (Uni of Central Lancashire) which has traditionally always had a large proportion of mature students (around 39%), and is situated in Preston (another grim northern town, but better than Bradford and definately more prosperous) which has good transport links to the rest of the UK (unlike Bradford which is poorly served by public transport). Also UCLAN is pretty good and encourages foreign students, and will do the legwork to get you fixed up with somewhere to stay.
As for needing a car, public transport in the UK is nowhere near to the standard that it is in the UK, however due to VERY HIGH GOVERNMENT PETROL TAX (around 65%) and VAT ON FUEL petrol costs nearly 3.5 times what it costs you in the US.Cars can be bought very cheaply, and are easy to come across in small ads.
So I wouldn't recommend Bradford mate, go to UCLAN!Or anywhere else!

Try the university of Leeds, it's a fantastic university and you will love it here - guaranteed. I'm 24, doing my masters at the university and am glad I made that choice
