Many stately homes are now converted into luxury hotels and they have beautiful grounds.

You can get a packed lunch made up for you and enjoy the grounds together and the bedrooms are also quite extravagant and conducive to Romance - I would wait until the weather gets a bit better though. Darned cold right now!

sam
why don't you spread your wings a bit and go to scotland. Edinburgh is a really nice place plenty to see and do.

The Lake District is amazing if it's quiet you want, it's one of the most romantic places I've ever been. Bath is a beautiful city with some lovely hotels, or the Cotswolds.

Englands, Lake District.
Englands, Cotswolds,

Centre parcs (all over the place - and good for winter)
Lake District (Lodore Falls Hotel is nice, and remote)
The Headland Hotel, Newquay (right on top of the cliffs)

It depends whether you're after luxury or adventure really, and where's 'away' for you.

The Peak District or the Lake District, both have stunning scenery.

We went away once for 2 nights to a tiny hotel perched half-way up the Malvern Hills; it was called "The Cottage in the Wood" and our room was over the old stables.
Early March and bitterly cold - we went shopping in Worcester then back to the Hotel where there was a roaring fire and we had afternoon tea sitting beside it with yummy things on a coffee table..
Dinner in the evening and in the morning we woke to find there had been a heavy snowfall overnight. Due to leave that morning, but we had to wait for snowploughs to dig out the road to the hotel. Driving home was so beautiful.
We found "The Cottage in the Wood" through The Good Food Guide.
Somewhere windswept and wonderful, like The Lobster Pot in Mousehole, nr. Penzance. That was for a wedding anniversary - I told them it was a special date and they gave us this tiny little room overlooking the harbour and we had our evening meal in the dining room with the same position and view.
If you want to explore Shropshire - there's The Crown Inn at Hopton Wafers (an old coaching Inn) or The Mill Hotel at Alveley, Nr. Bridgnorth (big log fires)

lindeth howe hotel windermere http://www.lindeth-howe.co.uk/
my wife & i have been here almost every year since we meet 7 years ago, rooms lovely, staff freindly, views amazing, food out of this world, close enough to the centre of bowness on windermere without being right in the centre, lovely small indoor pool gym & sauna. this house was once owned by beatrix potter & some of her books are stil on display here. also for romantic italian meal try villa positano one night on ash street (back of main street queen street? i think) but you may have to pre-book table small resturant but lovely food & atmosphere tel 01539 445663 or google italian resturants windermere.

Book a romantic cottage in Cornwall. I look after a couple of beauties in Polruan-by-Fowey, log fires, sea views, the sound of seagulls, and 2 lovely quaint pubs nearby. Have a lookType in, English Country cottages, and have a look at property refernce GK3, Fairmaiden Cottage, and GQ1, "The watch below. It' a really lovely village, just like stepping back in time.

The Lake District, Winderemere in particular. Stay at the McDonald Old England Hotel. Only stay there if you can book a lake view. There is no point going otherwise. The restaurant overlooks the largest lake in England and is to die for.

Depends where you are, as you probably won't want to spend too long travelling. Brighton is nice. Or London. Have a look on www.laterooms.com for some hotel bargains.
