How can Americans live in England?

Don't you miss home? I don't hate England or anything but everything looks retarded in this country. Their "English" is hardly understandable at times. They drive on the wrong side of the road. They don't accept USD in Central London.
I really miss home. I can't wait to go back....

thanks for the question man. your kind makes everybody hate us by asking in this arrogant way. i understand being homesick, and i had the experience too. and i lived in the middle east not England !!. but i didn't go calling other cultures retarded because they just have another way of living, a way i don't fit in easily.
and what's up with us Americans in trying to Americanize the world?! why don't we try to live Romans when we are in Rome? the first thing the American search for in a foreign country is a McDonald. that makes us way behind and unable to adapt new ideas and understand new ways of living. I advise you to go get some education and try to benefit from the experience of living in a new culture. and for God's sake try to see the positive parts of living in England and don't try to Americanize it.

I don't think the English ~do~ dislike sojourners so much! Much of our language has been 'altered' by Americanisms. Our poor speech has been encouraged by successive entertainers - again, largely under the American influence, and although we drive on the 'wrong' side of the road, it works for us. Do you accept pounds sterling in New York? It's possible that in some of the larger hotels here they might accept USD, but going into a shop and expecting them to take it is perhaps pushing your luck a bit.

I have to admit having been to Canada that I would have thrown my house keys out of the window and settled there, given a chance, so I understand your homesickness, but I'm not so sure about America per se. We have an image of brash, insensitive, LOUD Americans as the sterotype, whereas I know many are quiet, well-mannered and polite.

I could divert this question around to anyone experiencing homesickness in the USA. Just substitute word by word England to the US, dollar to Pound and you get my point!! How many visitors have not understood the US style of English, thought Americans who can't spell the names of their own states are retards and don't know geography... do I need to repeat the stereotypes to you, and why do you share your hatered to us on this forum... I just ask. Keep it to yourself as a British gentleman or lady would.

In fact there are more books probably written about the weird Americans and their habits than the English, is it because more people visited American and turned their backs on it, or what? I just ask? Then again both the USA and UK are tolerant societies with sometimes intolerant governments in power.

I suggest you go home if that's how you feel about the UK, too bad... better luck next time.

How can you diss England.... if you are white caucasian do you know that you originated from Europe ? you american drove the native american from their mother land ...how can you come to a country and call it retarded no one is dumb just different. English spoken in the Uk is the correct version the one spoken in American is just a dialect of the original thing..... fINALLY , NO DISRESPECT BUT YOU ARE COMING INTO A FOREIGN COUNTRY DON'T YOU HAVE THE MENTAL ABILITY TO TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED TO EXCHANGE SOME CURRENCY...SOME MIGHT JUST CALL YOU A DUMB YANKEE!!!!!

YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK

NO DISRESPECT INTENDED

go home then....for crying out loud you moaning yank
could say same about the US...do you take Pounds Sterling in Phoenix....or any other big city...no
as for driving on the left....we invented the motor car, so we can damn well choose where to drive it. In fact if you look...we invented a hell of a lot of things you people take for granted. As for how we speak... in the south of the USA they sound all whinny and Texans sound choked up...but hey, I'm not prejudiced...unlike like you

summerglow
that's not a nice way to speak to a country that has harbored you during your stay there. no matter how horrible it might be over there, you need to be appreciative and don't use harsh words. well you are always welcome home whenever you are ready to leave.

asojourner247
England can not be that bad. Being home sick is natural. It would help if the British did not dislike us so much. It takes leaving this great land to appreciate the beauty of home.
