How can I find my relative/friend in prison?

If you wish to trace someone who you believe is in prison custody but do not know his or her exact whereabouts a service has been developed called the Prisoner Location Service that can help you.

If you want to contact the Prisoner Location Service, please write to them at the following address:

Prisoner Location Service

PO Box 2152

Birmingham

B15 1SD

Fax: 0121 626 3474

Email: prisoner.location.service@hmps.gsi.gov.u...

The following information must be included with your enquiry:

* Full name of person you want to contact
* Any other names by which they may have been known
* Date of Birth
* Reason for enquiry

If the person is in custody, your details will be passed to them and he or she will be asked to give consent for the disclosure of their whereabouts.

Contact the British Embassy nearest to you. They can give you the Corrections Dept. address. Writing is better as phones just make you press one if.... press 3 if... etc. Writing forces somebody to answer you.

All jails adresses are listed. Contact the Embassy of Great Britain in your country of origin and they will help you.

The Salvation Army may be able to help you,They trace missing people.Good luck.

dermotsuks has given an excellent answer. There is no "Department of Correction" in the UK, but you will need to contact the Prison Service and they will be able to put you in touch with him, or at least tell you which prison he is in so that you can write to him.

p.s. We hardly ever use the word "jail" in the UK, we always call it prison. Here 's the website for the Prison Service's location system: http://www.hmprisonservice.gov.uk/adviceandsupport/keepingintouch/locationservice/

Go to HMP admissions, they'll let you know where he is. If you go and visit, take a lump of hash up your jaxxy and he'll be the most popular bloke around.

Anna S
Try the British department of corrections - if he's in a British jail, he'll be in their data base.

Shinny
Depends what he's in jail for, but try ringing the doorbell and ask for the Daddy.

Just don't be surprised if Ray Winstone appears at the door.
