first thing the small red lights on appliances use more electric than the appliance itself, turn them off at the plug when not in use
your immersion heater is opposite, leave on all the time it takes more lecy to heat water up from cold. most lecy heating appliances are 4 kilowatts, that's like a 60Wat light is 1 p the heaters around 8p, replace all your bulbs to 40w it takes a long time for the long life ones to pay for themselves, your elevctric kettle only boil enough wate for what you need ie mesure it if you need a mug full put a mug full in, don,t leave lights on if you are not in the room,
that's just an example.are you paying direct to the lecy or gas board. or the landlord. or card paying direct every three months can be up to half less. but if its a tenant job he may of governed the meter, and has you by the goolies,

Hi,

Use energy efficent light bulbs, make sure u turn off th elight when u r going out of a room, turn appliances off not onto stanby as standby uses just as much electric as when its on! When boiling the kettle use just the amount for the cups u r makin.
Keep ur heating turned down lower and put on an extra jumper if cold. Hang washing out instead of using a Tumble dryer. Cut down on TV time and read instead.

Draft excluders to keep in heat ( if u use electricty to heat ur house or water!)

Buy energy efficent appliances

basically use ur common sense if u dont need to use it dont!!

Good luck and remember ur saving money but also the environment!

Two ways really - reduce the amount you use and reduce the amount you pay.

If you go the the Energy Savings Trust website there's lots of ways in which you can reduce your consumption... http://www.est.org.uk/

If you go to U-Switch it tells you every supplier in your area and calculates how much it costs with each supplier. If you find a cheaper supplier (and you probably will) then you can switch online... http://www.uswitch.com

I have in mind the scripture that says, "God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth" - terrifying thought, uh? We are accountable to God for the way we use (and misuse) earth's resources. That helps no end to switch off lights that are not needed, to turn down the thermostat on central heating, to NEVER have gadgets on stand-by mode, to walk instead of using the car whenever possible, to recycle paper and aluminium cans and glass bottles.... Get the picture? And use the Internet to switch to a cheaper elcectricity supplyer. Vote with your purse! You do have choices!

Unplug appliances you aren't using. If they are still connected to the outlet, they are using electricity even if they aren't turned on. That may help a little bit...

Good luck!

angel
turn off lights when you are not in the room. Also if you have sky tv turn off at socket every night, they say this saves a lot of electric. Apart from turning off,not a lot else as electric keeps rising the more we have to pay!!

hepp t
Make sure you don't have the lots of light on, and off them as soon as you leave the room, use lower volt bulbs, don't having your iron on running, neither the Tv, or vcr, off them by the button not on stand by, keep the heating on, when you don't want it on ,off it . Just remember don't keep the electricity running every pence is running when the electric is running.

Shop around for an electric company that best suits your usage patterns. I was happy with British Gas supplying my electric, even though they don't stop spamming me now.

Use low energy lightbulbs, turn lights off after use, use gas for heating.

turn everything off that your not using.unplug things that you won,t be using for a while.
