Because Wales is actualy a Principality and not a country in the true sense of the word. Wales has been technicaly crown property since the time of Edward1st whereas scotland was joined by an act of union during the 18th century. Try tell a Welsh man that and it will be your last breath but the fact remains it is true therefore as a principality it has a Prince who traditionaly is heir to the throne. |

They are in fact British! They might be descended from Germans - but I think you'll find that they were all born in the UK (with the possible exception of Greek Phil). |

Most welsh people realise this , and most really hate it.
Cymro's answer basicly answered your question.
It's really unfair and wrong that he calls himself the prince of wales , he doesn't deserve the title. He isn't welsh and he should NOT be the prince of wales ,
former princes (who were welsh and had the intrest of the welsh at heart) were brilliant people , prince charles is just an english royal who got handed it on a plate.
I don't think of him as anything to do with Wales , and i would never look up to him or admire him or even call him my prince.
My sister had to play the harp in his "birhtday party" , and they asked her to play god save the queen - she and one other welsh girl just sat there and refused.
As you can tell then , by my answer - no we really really really don't agree with it. |

In Monarchal societies, oftentimes lands are given to sons of the Monarchs as symbols of their power. In modern English society, it's just one more bygone ritual of a colorful past. |

Why can Phil the Greek be Duke of Edinburgh . He is not even English ! And of course for the politically illiterate he is not even Scottish ! |

Because the English killed the last prince of Wales in 12century and in order to keep welsh people under controll they proclaimed the eldest son of the English monarch as the Prince of Wales. Welsh people appose this today, i certainly do, you hear about the bombings and riots during the investure in the 60s? There are even talks that he will be the last prince because the government are afraid that another investure would fuel Welsh nationalists and cause a storm hence leading to the breakup of the Uk.
I am Welsh he's not my prince and that's final |
