That's a bit of a generalisation don't you think?
I'm British and I'm nice (lol) but I know a lot of not so nice Brits and some nice Americans. |

I've spoken with some nasty Brits in my day. I think all countries have their nice ones and their bad ones. You cannot stereotype an entire nation on the actions of a few. |

It is about perception, there are plenty Brits who are not nice without doubt!
We have many very poor communities spread out throughout Britain in our towns and cities which usually leads to behavioural issues and social problems in these areas.
You don't tend to see the people in these situations on the TV, especially British telly that is shown abroad in other countries.
And tourists to Britain tend not to visit these places either!
Believe us we have plenty unpleasant people that can be selfish and mannerless.
Just to round this up though, we are generaly a good nation of people and fairly warm and generous. We are always at the top end of the list in terms of charity. There is always big charity events here and we donated very well after the Tsunami and other such events. |

Seriously, British people are more reserved and may not say exactly what they think (even if it's derogatory)the tradition is to be nice and say nice. My Mum used to say to me 'if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all' Americans, I work for them and in general are less intelligent, less patient and much more bombastic. They look for simple one line answers when it may require a much more subtle approach. They seem to also cast aside something without question if it's not what they want to hear. There are always exceptions to the rule and this of course is a generalisation. |

You must have never come to London's inner racially diverse suburbs.
Dreadful.
I think English, like all British are generally friendly, will take you on your actions rather than your appearance but remain a bit stand-offish, but that's till you know them well enough to let their guard down.
I think British are more adult than most Americans- but Yanks can be very warm people to the point of smothering!
Good and bad in all. I think we're just a bit more stand-offish or too polite/wimpish to be rude. |

I think their are wonderful people and bad people of every race. i think its more of a customs thing of how we see the other. if you get use to the brits the americans seem rude and visa versa. Its all about what your use to....
I am amercian living outside the US for four years now |

I've met and worked with a lot of Americans and they have been so much nicer than a lot of Brits. In fact I've never met a nasty one. I used to work for an American company who were building a new pharmaceutical plant here and our American colleagues were far more polite than their British counterparts. Even the top dogs were polite, they took all us minions out for a meal at least once whenever they were over. Interestingly when my American doggy friends were thinking about coming over for Crufts they said 'You'll recognise us we'll be the loud, obnoxious yanks' they didn't come but I'm sure they weren't obnoxious at all, perhaps a bit loud but who cares.
We used to get American students from the University on placement and they were wonderful, polite and caring young people with none of the arrogance we often got from their British colleagues. |

British chav culture rules the streets in the UK.
The majority of Brits are still good people but the scum are growing in numbers and dont present a pretty picture to the rest of the world.
I lived and worked in Hells Kitchen or whatever it's called now near 48th and 8th and loved the characters and found it a great place to be.
People are friendly once you get to know them in NYC and get over what looks at first like rudenss.
I was on South Street in Philly too (bit like a piece of Camden Town with Italian and Irish Americans - and couldnt fault any of them.
We in the UK have a lot to learn from them.

ramsey is awesome. ok well becuase when you think of britain you think of a group of white people huddled around a nice table having tea time and crumpits. and when you think of america you think of fast food and white trash and ghetto people walkin around shooting and stealing. |

Well, in my oppinion I wouldn't agree with that. The chavy lifestyle of british people today is disgusting. They are greedy people who will not share their country. I'm British and I've recently beeen on holdiday to Florida and the people there are so friendly and warm. Ok,, maybe they do get a bit carried away with their food. |

how a person acts, mean or nice, depends on thier personality. not all people that are of British lineage are polite. many americans believe that, because of their surroundings. i was born and raised in the U.S, and still live there, and everywhere i look there are television shows, books, movies, etc. making fun of the U.K. and every other country. Britain comes across as the "wimp" in many stories. peoples personalities depend on how they were raised, their surroundings, and their abilities to make good decisions. all i know, is that in the U.S., there are many bad influences, and many chances to make a bad decisions. you should watch "Da Ali G Sho" its funny, rude, and highly inapropriate. it is also British. what i say is not fact, so dont quote me. i may be wrong, because after all, i am just a random person. the U.S. may have some bad, but it also has some good. not all Americans are meaner than British people, just remember that. and sorry for any spelling, or grammical errors, english is not my strong point. |

woah !
i thought it was the other way around to be honest !
british people have more chavs, and swear more at eachother..
but you probably can't judge unless you've lived in both places for a while.
i'm british, but that's an interesting point.. |

It is all on the surface to be honest, we may be outwardly charming and polite but a lot, not all and I include myself and friends in the not all, are hiding a searing bigotry, racism and fear of other people that has to be seen to be believed, a crushing sense that everyone is better off than they are and a doom laden sense of impotence and incompetence caused by years of repressed expression. |
