I think the motorway safer, as on single carriageway's many people overtake in wholly ridiculous places and this causes many accidents. |

For sensible drivers, a motorway is by far the safest kind of road due to the absence of all the things that create accident risks:
- no oncoming traffic.
- no pedestrians crossing.
- no short sightlines.
- no right turns.
The main hazards arise through careless driving or badly maintained cars. The thing to remember is stopping distance - at 70 mph you are covering 1.16 miles per minute so you need to be observing a lot further ahead than on an urban road where traffic is doing 20 - 30. Don't get too close to the vehicle in front - driving too close to be able to stop if the car in front stops is asking for an crash. It's also wise to check that your tyres are in good order, as they matter more at higher speeds. |

It`s safe if you are on the proper side |

It's actually a lot safer, as there are no junctions, crossroads, roundabouts, pedestrians, pushbikes, traffic lights etc. and all the traffic is going the same way (in theory!) |

Yes it's safer. The danger points are though: joining the moterway off a sliproad; having enough room to change lanes when others are joining a motorway. |

It is quite safe as there is not (normally) any oncoming traffic. |

Motorway driving is much safer! You absolutely avoid a head - on collision e.g. |

safer than any other roads, although if do have a high speed accident then the outcome is not very good! |

Far safer: apart from the higher speeds, motorways are better maintained, and tractors, learner drivers and other potential hazards are excluded from using these roads. Usually pedestrians are well seperated from motorways, unlike some A-roads which do not even have fences. |

The motorway driving, compared to A+B road driving are completely different, but effectively M-Way driving is far more safer, because we normally remain more vigilant whilst doing it, primarily because there are less distractions than town driving, and we also know that one mistake could result in many fatalities, so psychologically we are more cautious.
So with that in mind, i would like to see more emphasis on motorway driving when the UK driving tests are undertaken, i would also like to see severe penalties for persistent tailgaters, particularly from articulated lorry drivers, whom in my opinion should be banned from driving for a period of time if caught doing so........What say you?? |

well i disagree with previous answers,i think its dangerous, youve got to have eyes up your backside.
everyones travelling at a lot faster speed, and majority exceeding 70mph.making judgement of speed and braking a lot more difficult to judge, even more so in bad conditions. |
