no problem at all with the ones that actually come here to work. The one's that are here solely for the handouts, free housing and to abuse the nhs etc, they give the rest a bad name because they don't actually want to be here - they just want free stuff.
Immigration isn't a bad thing historically, after all, we are an island. if we had had no immigration we'd all be inbred fools with thirteen fingers and five ears.
I do feel however that if they move here, they should accept the british culture (such as it is nowadays) way of life and standards of living. For example, if I went to Iraq/Iran/Saudi Arabia or anywhere in the middle east, I would be expected to wear their style of clothes in public - in fact in most places it is mandatory and punishable to refuse. Why should it be different here? It can be extremely intimidating to come into contact with someone wearing the full burqa! i know it may just be intimidation by something we are unused to or do not understand, but still.

And I really feel that coming to our country, reaping all the benefits of UK citizenship and residence - including the right to practice any religion they choose - and then saying to behead all non-believers in their religion is just not on.

I know that the above comments seem to be centred on one particular group of immigrants, however the general principle is the same for everyone. We accept them, our government bends over backwards to give them everything they could possibly want - and forces all of us to do the same. The least we can expect in return is a little reciprocal acceptance and tolerance. I do not like being called "a white b****" for the same reason anybody would be offended by that. Race to me is not an issue and it always surprises me that people assume that it is.

Sorry if I ramble - my brain is a little disorganised this afternoon!
ps. for anyone who could be offended by the above - that is the tolerance i was talking about, freedom of thought and of expression

As long as they work, stay on the right side of the law and integrate then no problems.

As long as people are working, fine

Akatsuki Girl
I'm fine with that...

It's just those that don't work and get treated better then the actually English, that piss me off!

Helen
It's fine as long as they are paying taxes etc like we do. If they are living off benifits with us paying them to do so then they should not be here, its not fair.

(by benifits I mean getting pregnat when really young, not being bothered to work etc.)

not a lot. This is a very small country and people from all over the world are coming here.especially from European states. This is causing a serious problem as there is a shortage of houses, schools and there are no jobs. These people want get rich quick and do lot of crimes, muggings, and robberies and theft. There are so many thefts in the are that police are warning house holds. Most people work and are OK. There are some communities who are claiming all the benefits and not putting back any thing and not be part of this country.I am from India and been here 41 years and this is my home.I do pay taxes and insurance and never claimed any benefits. This country has been let down with too many benefits and too many rules and it seems to be run by foreigners. There are lot of good people who never caused any problems. If some one is not willing to be a part of this society and not willing to pay back his share he should go back.I have nothing against any one and get on well with any one .It is that who don't.A great country in the world to live in peace.

it pisses me right off
it took me months to find a job because all the jobs were going to the polish nd it took me months to find a flat to rent because they were all being given away to immigrant wgo have been given priority over british nationals.

i would nt mind if they let a few in hear and there but when they let them in by the 100s of thousands it pisses everyone off.
the government is poisoning us british peoples minds about us being muticultural we are having to change are way of life to suit them and its not right our culture has been the same for thousands of years we shouldnt have to change it.
i agree that some of them come here for work and want to better there lives which i have no problem with. But they begin to demand stuff and want changes made in our laws and more of there culture brought here which isnt right. They have absolutely no respect for the british way of life or our heritage or our history. if i was to moveto another country i would enjoy being there so i could learn about there culture and history and respect that.
sadly they dont do that when they come here and about 50% of them (and i think other brits would agree with me on this)
cant evan speak a word of english, that is complete ignorance.

It is fine with me as long as they work, pay taxes abide by our laws and way of life and don't get preferential treatment above indigenous people of England like many do

Kenny
I would be fine with it except a lot of the immigrants get treated better than the English and their health and things like that get put before ours because its 'politically correct'. I also get annoyed by the fact that non-whites get treated better than whites sometimes because otherwise they're 'racist'. I don't mind the immigrants coming in if they're hard workers, don't live off benefits and cause crime but a lot of them don't. I don't believe I am a racist at all (my dad isn't actually English) but I get sick of immigrants getting treated better than English people and the fact that England is becoming over-crowded and that a lot of crime today is from foreigners.

Absolutely fine by me, non UK nationals have lived worked in our country for a long, long number of years.

Janet G
Not bothered to be honest. I would expect/want to be treated in a similar way if i were to move/visit some were else. Besides can you imagine how boring it would get if no-one new ever came into the country, or you were forced to stay in Britain?

No problem whatsoever, most people who have a problem, have a problem with too many people coming into the country, not where they are from. Britain is a very crowded country and the fact that we all get on so well speaks volumes as to how tolerant most of us are.

Stacey J
I'm fine with it but it is going a bit out of proportion. The UK is a very multi cultural place and i'm proud of it. What i have a problem with is they they claim benefits and leech from the council effectively making taxes rise and money that could be better spent is given away yet they dont even try for jobs. I know not all do this but there are too many that do.
Thats the only problem i have.

Kelly
If working its great! We need them since we have so many lazy brits not willing to work and live of benifits.

Despite what a couple of answerer's have said, a recent Police report said quite specifically that the increase in Eastern European immigrants has NOT caused a rise in crime.

Angel
