How does London compare to New York?

Additional Details
I just want answers from your personal points of view...nothing specific. Ok, maybe what character types do you mostly see? In NY, I see a lot of 'suits' and fashion-conscious people and tourists when I go. People show off their pampered pooches...etc.

honestly i hate hate hate the way new york is layed out on a map

the burroughs are too confusing for a visitor...and the subway? i've been to "go sees" (read my profile) and gotten lost several times....i can handle any metro you through at me in europe, but new york's system is a nightmare

+ being from los angeles the hate of new york is inherent in me...i much rather listen too cockney than a brooklyn accent (you know what i mean?)

and lastly landing in london is AMAZING it's so compact and concentrated that you see everything! upon landing i got to see sheep, double deckers, tudors, eeeverything, i'm swear i think i saw a spice girl or two (landing into jfk is NO competition)

+ 1 nice smelly river is better than a dozen traffic inducing rivers

as to the people asian tourists, common folk, and the posh bourgeois are all you'll see in new york/london/paris/millan it's all the same

I live in London and I was SHOCKED how inexpensive New York is.

The subway in New York always seems dirtier to me than in London.

For what?

Kathy (below) - not sure you can get "much more diverse" than London... maybe AS diverse, but not much more... London is about as diverse as it gets.

New York is busier and the taxis tend to run you over! The people are louder in New York but you get much better service in restaurants. The fashion is about 2 years behind London in the shops so there is never anything I want to buy.

London is older, quieter, friendlier, dirtier, more spread out.

Tube is easier to understand than NY Subway.

London buses are red and mostly double deckers.

London taxis are black, but still distinctive.

Many more parks in London.

Exchance rates probably mean London is now more expensive (hotels, restaurants, etc.).

Most good eateries in London are foreign (Italian, Chinese, Indian etc.).

As others have said, what else did you want to know?

London_calling
London is much better - far more navigable, well-established tube system, lots to see and do and far more parks than just the one central park. London is the most diverse city in the world - almost every language spoken in the world is spoken in London. You can walk from one end of central London to the other in a day and see more diverse buildings, history and people than you ever would in New York - that's far too big and nothing's old! People dress incredibly well in London, Americans seem to be scared of fashionable suits because they think they'll make them look gay. We've also got direct links to Europe for quick weekends away - something New York certainly doesn't offer.

London: Badly dressed scruffy people with a permanant scowl on their faces and cell phone seemingly attached to their ear

nyc is much more diverse than london. sure london is very multicultural but there are so many different nationalities in nyc. also, ithink it's dirtier and i agree with the guy above me, you're more likely to get murdered in nyc than in london
