I love Scotland and spend as much time up there as I can.

Beautiful scenery, when the weather is nice...
Go up into the highlands and it's nice and quiet too, great to escape the traffic and congestion of big cities. Saying that, Edinburgh and Glasgow are great too. I worked in both and loved my time there. As for Aberdeen, I'm nothe biggest fan of that place - everything was grey, even the sky!

well im Scottish and i can safely say it isnt our weather that people love! (rain rain and then more rain)so it must be the people! lol

I've only been once, we stayed just outside Peebles, not far from Edinburgh. The countryside is stunning and the people very friendly (especially when they found that we were Welsh not English). I want to go again and maybe visit the Lochs and the highlands.

friSbee
It's a fine place, haggis neeps and tatties with a dram poured over it to make a sauce after a day in the hills, lovely! There is space and not as much traffic as that hellhole around London. I just wish they would drop that silly pantomime tartan carpet and plastic battleaxes I see in every Scottish Hotel. Scotland really is another Country, I couldn't live there but I can see the attraction over English suburbia. As for me , I much prefer La Douce France!

kwaterman16
never been but i really wanna go.

Maud The Skivvy
The scenery is beautiful and there's lots of wild animals and birds to see.

The only thing that puts me off is the rain, but you just have to buy appropriate clothing and a raincoat.

The weather thing is a myth its really not that bad. In the summer its one of the best places you can be !!

I have only been to Scotland once - but loved the place, have never had the chance to return - but i must say that i had heard so much about how friendly the Scots were that i couldn't wait to get there - and lets face it they are no friendlier than any other place in the UK - but I take your point Beastie - when you say that the Irish and Scots are historically related - because one day we were a bit lost and asked this lady the way to get to a certain place - and she was so polite and friendly - I thought yes!! the Scots are the friendliest people and we have found her - I asked her where about she came from - wait for it - 'Ireland' she said, lovely lady.

Beastie
Because we're related, historically, to the Irish... and everyone loves them too.

The original Scots were a tribe from what is now Ireland that took over the south west of Scotland then gradually extended influence. My own heritage is something between Pictish and Viking.

Edit - Oh come on, what in that answer got me a thumbs down? It's historical fact what I've said, not just my idea.

The weather can be awful, but in summer the evenings are lighter for longer. Historically it's very interesting. The scenery is beautiful just past Glasgow. People are generally quite humerous (Billy Connolly)
I was born there, but am a 'southern softie' now. Last visited over christmas and it wasn't cold!

Because we are friendly, considerate people and we are currently being taken over by refugees - Asians, and Polish. Its not for our weather as its always cold and wet and unemployment is high and housing bad, But welcome to Glasgow.
