How easy is it to aquier alcohol in London and get into clubs at age 17? |
My sister and I are taking a week long trip to london this summer and she will be celebrating her 21st birthday there. Obviously she will be able to buy alcohol and such, but how hard will it be for me to get into clubs and drink as well? |

If you look over 18 in London, you will have no problem buying alcohol or getting into clubs.
Buying alcohol in London is very easy as there are shops called 'Off License' which sell beer and alchohol to over 18 year olds.
Clubs expect their patrons to be 18 years or older. If they suspect you as being younger, they ask for ID or ban you from entering. In some clubs you have to be 21 or over.
Please be aware that there are people that will spike your drink - don't accept drinks from strangers and never leave your drink unattended or with people you don't know.
If you want a cab, don't accept the cab sitting outside the club - he may be unlicensed and not a cab at all. Only accept a lift from a black cab, or one that is licensed. You will know if the cab is licensed because he has a plate on his number plate saying so.
Always be on your guard, be sensible and have a great time. Stay safe. |

VERY hard, most clubs ask for ID now, especially with the new drinking laws!!!! |

I should be doing something else

I know I'll get lots of thumbs down for saying this but what the hell!
All u need to do is borrow a friends ID (even if they don't even look like you) I did this so many times before I turned 18 and never once got caught out, and I know lots of other people whi did it too.
One night I went out with one of my friends, she was 18 and I was still 17, she took her driving license and I took her passport. The SAME bouncer checked ID for both of us - 2 girls with the same name, with the same date of birth, and they didn't even notice! lol |

Depends if your lucky enough to look over 21.
As UK law stands, you must look over 21, or you'll be asked for ID. |

Very hard, though you will both be able to share a cell together, because you will both have broken various laws, don't do it, go to a pub or something, as long as you don't order at the bar, and don't consume alcohol, you're on the right side of the law. |

I don't think it's that hard. I'm well over 18 but I look young for my age, and many of my friends are 18-20, and we *never* get asked for ID. We do get asked if we try to buy alcohol in the supermarket, but not in a bar or a club.
I think that you are more likely to have problems if there is a big group of you, as this draws attention to you. If it's just you and her, I bet you'll be fine.
The hardest part will be getting in the door - once you're in they certainly won't refuse to serve you. If you time it so that you arrive at a point in the night when it's late enough that they might be busy-ish and you won't be noticed, but not so late that they'll be really picky about who gets in, then you'll have the best chance.
Stay away from places like All Bar One which have a policy of being for over-21s only - obviously there will be no young people and you'll stick out like a sore thumb. |

it's meant to be a lot tougher recently, but it really isn't. you can always hang out in bars with late licences, not clubs....at 17 you won't be served booze, but you'll be okay in the company of your sister, and avoid entry fees....there's still dancing and 'nonsense' to be had without the clubs in london....enjoy yourself and be safe! |
