How far will $5,000 get me in London?

If I'm painfully frugal, and live in the wretchedest hovel, how quickly will $5,000 disappear?

At the moment that is about £2,400 so I would say if you didn't go into a huge hotel...about £30 a night for lodgings, and say another £20 for cheap food then thats £50 a night so thats about 6/7 weeks or so.

well thats £2500, your probably looking at £55 minimum for a bed for the night, you could eat on £15 per day and drinks are about £2.50-£3 per pint, i would say about 2-4 weeks depending on what your after out of the city, its massive with loads to see and you could spend that sort of money in a week, i go there a coupleof times a year for shopping and a little sight seeing and have spent £1100 in a day, its not cheap, good luck and have fun when your here

Your biggest expense is accommodation - find someone to stay with for free (or cheap) and you will be able to extend your stay for a good few months.
London is expensive but it is one city in the world which is full of amazing things to do for free.
Invest in a cheap bicycle to get around.

About 3 miles in a cab!
Seriously though - check the links for cheap accommodation and things to do and see. Your money will go quite far - if you are careful.

Within minutes..you better off looking on the outskirts with a tube station! :)

mizzmamma
very quickly, depends what your buying with it, if its nights out and clothes etc then a couple of days to a week lol

As a general rule I always took into mind what I expected to pay here at home (Kansas City, MO) and multiplied the amount by three to give me what I thought was the approximate cost equivalent in London.

That is only worth about HALF because the pound/dollar conversion is about 2 to 1... so it's like having only $2500 to spend at home.

cafcnil
About a month and a half, possibly two months

sosgez
I'd be surprised if you last a month.

john v
£2500 or $5000 will get you round the underground aprox 64000 times

andy t
not very far you need pounds sterling or euros!

Stephen M
if you are amazingly frugal you may be able to stretch it to 5 months. I reckon it is just about possible to survive on £500 per month

david k
it will get you everywhere with my girl, ill hold her and you give me the $5thou.
