How fast is the tube (london underground)?

luludoodie

Rule of thumb to get travel times.

2 minutes per station, with a bit extra on long distances.
Surprisingly accurate!

CLIVE H
Although the London UndergrounD [Tube] is the quickest way around town, train speeds are about 20 - 25mph in central London but a bit faster out in the suburbs where they are mostly above ground - say around 50 - 60mph

According to Transport for London, the average speed of a tube train is about 33km/hr (20.5mph).

From the passengers point of view, it takes about 2-3 minutes to get from one station to the next in inner London, and a little longer between the more widely spaced stations as you get towards the outskirts.

saltwater
As a rule of thumb it takes two minutes between stations. The trains themselves do get going between stations sometimes, but wouldn't get much faster than 50-60kmh

I don't know the speed, but the above answerer has it right. It's a great system they have there with stops everywhere in zones 1-3.

Just to clarify, the 20.5 mph cited earlier as the average train time includes the time spent in the intermediate stations. They should be able to reach at least 35-40 mph as a top speed.

truluv exists!
the met line trains run at max speed of 62 mph.

the other lines run at a top speed of 70 mph.

however all the trains must run at the top "line" speed on the met it is 55mph and on all the others it is 45mph.

the average speed would be approx 30mph in the tunnels.

hope that helps.
