Every area of Scotland is a delight to visit. I spent a few days at the Youth Hostel in 2004 on the Isle of Iona. There are lots of Hostels in Scotland in most every place which really keeps your costs down. But there are plenty of B&B places too. Recommend you make reservations at least a week in advance if not more than a month. There are also castles that you can stay at. Do a thorough Google search and you will find everything you want.

If you go to Largs, be sure you have lunch at the George's Inn. Have their special plate of haggis and blood pudding with chicken. And a pint of bitters. It is delicious! And take the time to visit Pencil Point. My ancestors fought in the last battle against the Vikings there.

Go to the whiskey distilleries on the west and east coast. Both are excellent although my favorites are Tallisker and Laphroagh. The Isle of Skye is a must. See Dunvagen Castle and the Fairy Flag. Out side watch the sea lions in the water while the pelagic birds fly around as you wander through their thick Rhododendron forest.

Edinburgh is the best city in the world, Festivals, Culture, Pubs, Friendly people, History, natural beauty,

it is let down by one thing only, the weather. But, as I keep saying in NZ, at least we have heating!!! indoors in NZ is Cold in winter, indoors in Scotland is warm!

think how many hours of the day you actually spend indoors, even on a hot summers day.

It is absolutely fabulous!! I have lived in Staffordshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire and visited practically every other county in England and wales - and a few in Ireland too but you can't beat Scotland. Come a little further up the east coast next time to beautiful Aberdeen, or the lovely seaside town of Stonehaven, with its superb eating places - including an art deco restaurant which is as good as you'd find in London. We also have an art deco open air heated seawater swimming pool, a ruined castle and easy access to Royal Deeside. What more could you ask?

I live in Edinburgh, UNESCO World Heritage City & also UNESCO's first World Literary City too. Can't think of a better place to live.

It's brill! The pace of life is relaxed, the countryside is beautiful, tonnes of stuff to do, shops are excellent, wherever you go you're spoiled for choice:
(NO I'm not being paid by visit Scotland)
Here is a wee list of places to visit & things to do in my area:
Pitlochry Festival Theatre
The House of Bruar (big shopping place)
The Legends Cafe & chocolate shop, Grantully (you'll not get a better hot choc anywhere!!)
Blair Castle
Menzies Castle
Cluny House Gardens
Nae Limits Adventures
....hundreds more......

If you mean Edinburgh, it's not too bad. But watch out for the living cost though, it's scary @@X

I love living in Scotland, but don't get the idea that Edinburgh is the norm in Scotland, most Scots refer to it as "mini England" the best place to live is the west coast!

not getting at english or Edinburgh people just think that there are nicer areas in Scotland
