Yes, well, if you are going to ask this sort of question you must expect all the d*ick-headed numptys to come out of the woodwork. Ask yourself why it is one of the most desirable goals for immigrants.
Please don't assume that England is populated by illiterate lazy dogs that want to belittle everything and have everything for no effort.
Some of us are very happy with England, its politeness, its delightful weather, (a bit of rain now and then) its comparatively good TV service, its mixture of cultures, its open democracy, its freedom to speak, its good level of road-craft, its low level of road deaths, well stocked free libraries, good theatres not only in London, widespread cinemas, I could go on but i have other things to do right now. Take care and have a nice day. |

British culture is open and we are a true multi culture and have diverse people from all over the world. And the other people that left negative messages don`t represent the majority of British people!!!
Also the culture can change from small towns to big cities ,much more diverse in say London etc.
As far as food goes,it depends on your meaning, are you asking for a English national dish? or what kind of food are in restaurants? National dish are things like Steak pie and chips, fish and chips, pot roast etc
as far as eating out we have the best choice in the world,I live in London and we have anything from Asian food,Italian,Mexican,French etc etc etc etc
Please come and see life here and have a very nice time

i think it depends where you live. the south is terrible for people not having time for you or ignorence. loads of knife crime now and crappy weather.
the north is better (im from the north east which i think is the est place in the uk honestly) for the people being kind but not much better on gangs that we call 'charvs or chavs' who drink on the streets cause riots and are cheeky but have to work in a group because seperatly they are nothing.
the clubs are flooded with young people( which is very normal and i do it myself ) because theres nothing else better to do.
it seems to rain all the time nd be overcast.
the food is good i suppose. loads of take aways about tho, its not framiliar for a family to make a meal and sit at a table in the uk.
but overall i wouldnt live anywhere else as it is home to me :) |

Too much youth violence
Too many kids living on estates with can't-give-a-**** parents who let them drink, bully people and cause trouble on the streets.
Also known as chavs.
Its a terrible country because of these people and they're so hostile with everyone without realizing they're the ones causing trouble.
I'd rather live among gangster than white boys trying to be gangsters, only more violent. |

Pah! People from other countries seem to have this illusion that they want to live in England because of the lifestyle and London being "amazing" yada yada yada.
Culture? Chavs seem to make up like 90% of the population, their culture is alcohol, ASBOs and living in squalor.
We don't have a specific food that is the national dish like the italians do with pasta and pizzas, but the occasional sunday dinner is pretty tight.
Oh and people from the north and south don't really like eachother and the government bums over London. |

I am amazed at all the people on here who say how terrible it is in England. Any UK citizen has the right to live and work in any other EU country - so why do they choose to stay if it is so bad?
Personally I like it here. I travel abroad a lot but, although I have considered the idea of moving abroad when I retire, I suspect that I will choose to stay here. The things that I like include the historic cities, the country pubs, the long summer evenings and, of course, the British eccentricity and tolerance. (Yes, despite many of the strange ideas that come out on Yahoo Answers we are generally pretty tolerant of lots of things.)
English food used to be terrible, and still is in many places, but we now have a wealth of foreign cuisines to choose from. In many ways the country is much more diverse and interesting now that we have so many different cultures settled here.
EDIT: I have just seen Iseepink's comments and I was thinking 'Daily Mail' before I even saw the quoted source! You will get a very biased (and inaccurate) view of Britain if you depend upon the Daily Mail. |

I've often wondered that too so I started reading English papers to see what it's really like, plus you get a wide range of comments from people who still live there or ex-pats who have left and love it or have left and miss it but the ones that miss it are few and far between.
Some say they like the weather, others hate it. There is a huge difference among the north (places like Manchester, Liverpool) and south (London) which is apprently dubbed the North-South Divide. London is wealthier and woman have chldren later in life, while the North is poorer and their health is worse. Thanks to the economic collapse however I think something like 6 or 4 out of 10 Londoners will lose their jobs, while thanks to Brown, the North will prosper. So look for a change.
They pay ridiculous taxes (and apparently give immigrants multi-million pound homes to live in rent free), they have Nazi-like councils and their judicial system is terrible. Kill someone and you go to jail for a few months. So if you're planning on commiting a crime, England is the place the live.
They're also big on human rights, claim asylum and their councils will hook you up with free housing, health, money (Polish citizens can still collect dole even though they don't live in England anymore) the works. If you get caught for a crime just remember "Asylum, Asylum" and they can't deport you. Think of Amercia and how we treat our criminals and illegals and then think of the complete opposite, that's England.
Drinking is a huge part of English life and binge drinking is the norm. Plan on eating lots of curries too. Like we have tons of pizza places, they have lots of Indian takeaway. You can find good food in London but plan on paying a lot to eat out. Traditional English food is not exactly my cup of tea (how can someone eat a tradtional English breakfast and not be sick?) but maybe you'll like it. Check the link for more info.
Oh and the English like to queue, that was one thing they prided themselves on. While we Americans yell and scream if we have to wait in line, they don't mind.
For more I'd suggest you start watching BBCAmerica and British shows, reading newspapers and maybe chatting online to English people. I think England is beautiful and all countries have their faults so to really form an opinion you'll have to visit. |
