How is living in the UK? |
Hello, i was wondering if anyone could please give some advice on living on any place in the UK, i was looking for a warm place ^^
Is there crime?, jobs?, racism?, violence?...
I'm really interested in know how's over there.
I really like most of the UK, exept for the cold weather, but of course i just know a little bit that tv shows, and that's why i wanted to ask someone that actually lives there. I hear it's rather expensive...
Thanks you so much for reading, and if so... for answering :)
Cheers. |

England a few years ago was a fantastic place. Not so much now: too much immigration, everything costs a fortune, kids running rampage and we're so politically correct you can't say anything for fear of offending someone or being called racist/sexist/disabalist...etc etc. Oh yeah, and don't forget that if you so much as look at a child, you'll be instantly labelled a paedophile and have bricks thrown through your window.
Such a shame: it was such a lovely country... How did it get ruined so comprehensively...sob... |

The UK is ok. I think you need to have travelled a bit, and lived in other countries, to appreciate it.
It`s our weather that let`s us down. But I once spent 3 years in Malaysia which is near the equator% |

It depends on where you are from, and yes to all those Q's violence, crime, racism etc........
But I live in a nice place where there are good jobs and nice people, and the crimes and judgements do not influence your daily life, I suppose it is the same as anywhere else in the world.
I have found that the further north england you go the people are friendlier, and much more open with you.
I like life here but also I would like to move to NZ one day, as I think it is a better upbringing for my children over there.
Good luck, with whatever you decide. |

it's been quite a cold wet summer but the winter isnt normally bad
people arnt as friendly we mostly keep to ourselves in public.
watch where u put your valueables because it will get stolen or 'nicked'
the warmest place is london/midlands normally
but they are the places with most crime/murder/violence you really need to be careful walking the streets!
its expensive in london but my one bedroom flat is £400 a month and thats very cheap.
there are plenty of local shops and city centres for shopping aswell as HUGE supermarkets (not as huge as america) for big food shops.
fashion may be a bit different but it depends what youre into.
it is hard to get a job ill be honest with you it is incredible competitive because we are such a small nation!we do things like shared houses which work out very cheap like £250-350 per month! the cars obv drive on the left hand side. there isnt as much racism as in america but you do need to watch what you say and be polite...always stand on the right of an escolator and queuing is important hehe. anything else just gimme an email :) |

I always loved living in England up until July 7, 2005, when three young adults blew up a subway station. Since then, the racism, violence and crime is terrible. The only bright side about it is that there are security cameras in a LOT of locations. Hopefully, that'll catch the bloody arseholes who decide to **** up the life of Britain. Plus, the prices are quite high. Just for some trainers, I had to pay 40 pounds. And the flat I'm living in in Essex isn't that large, but at least I can call it home. :) |

The warmest place in the UK is the far southwest, it is on the same latitude as some of northern France. However it is also one of the poorest, most underdeveloped areas of the country. I'm talking rural not ghetto.
The news is making a lot of noise about crime rates at present, and knife crime in a couple of the major cities is heavily reported. Generally though crime is on the decrease. Also because of the nation's longterm health there is a campaign against the Brits drinking too much. "Binge Drinking" is slowly becoming more unpopular and there is an increasing tread towards a more continental outlook. Affluence has risen in the last twenty years has meant that people eat out a lot more and drink a lot more wine.
There is a shortage of workers in some sectors. Recently though there has been quite a number of job losses because of the turmoil in the financial markets. Unemployment at a percentage is still higher in the Eurozone, although that's quite a large place.
Violence in most places is rare. Mostly violence occurs after people have been drinking, it normally is easy to avoid. In certain cities its mostly football, in others it's turf wars.
For the most part England is peaceful, green.
It's difficult to say where you'd like. Take a look at:
Bath, Bristol, Oxford, Cardiff all of which are in the milder south.
London is interesting and should really be treated as a collection of towns/villages. There are places which are extremely privileged and places that are in poverty in the city.

There's lots of racism, violence and crime. It's always raining. The recruitment agencies advertise jobs that don't exist, wages are barely enough to live on and nobody can afford to buy a house. There are lots of immigrant ghettos. Other than that it's great. It's probably warmest in the South. At least guns are illegal.
I have family in Canada who go out and leave their house unlocked. They never lock the car and nothing ever gets damaged or stolen. It's amazing compared to Britain. Other countries don't seem to have half the problems we do.
I'm doing my damnedest to get out of the place as I can't afford to live here and it's depressing. |

I don't think its expensive, but like in the US we are having an economy crisis, so it wouldn't be any different really. The weather is quite unpredictable, but as i have never visited the US i cant compare it to the UK as I have lived here all my life! i know we have quite a lot of chavs and knife crime, but i have heard about loads of gangs and knife crime in the US too. |

There's better places .. and worse. Avoid London, Birmingham, liverpool, these tend to be hotspots for crime. In fact the fruther away you get from london the better, less expensive too. |
