How long does it take to drive to Glasgow (from London)?
Hi!
We want to go for the weekend to Scotland, just not sure which way is the cheapest. Any ideas how much petrol cost woul be on return way London- Glasgow, and how long would it take?
About 6 hours i would have thought, depending on traffic
aeaotora
hit the m25-m1-m6-m74
on a good day you could do it in 6-7 hours

It is difficult to beat 8 hours on this trip. So budget 8 hours.
Petrol cost depends on the car but could be about £40 one way. It is 400 miles or so.
NB 7 hours from the north of london. 8 hours from the south side.

took me 5 and half did it 4 times on the M5

if by car will take you about 6hrs you need to stop for fuel and food and fluids for all in car look up cheap flights,is the quickest way when its only a weekend, also by train for overnight /daytime or by city-link bus,fly would be the cheapest,if you get a bargain.
Helen
more like 10 or 12 hours and budget for at least 3 full tanks of petrol (your coming back i assume ?)
If you book your train a week in advance your tickets will be cheaper .
so it all depends on how near you can get to your destination on public transport .

Go on the train. Virgin from euston Weekend fares are very reasonable and it takes about 3 1/2 hrs intead of six in the car

I think it takes at least 7 hours without traffic.

Overnight coach is generally cheapest way to go, though not very restful.
Driving at legal speeds and taking a couple of 30 minute breaks, you could do it in eight hours comfortably. A medium sized saloon would probably need one tank of fuel each way.
Take flasks and sandwiches to avoid paying motorway service prices, if you really want to minimise costs.

About 6 - 6 half hours ish. Petrol costs me £25 from Lakes to Glasgow one way. Virgin do some really cheap deals. Singles are actually cheaper. I suggest checking them out before you consider driving. Think of the convenience and savings!
