10 years but don't get caught out like I did. I booked to go to Egypt then discovered that I had to have at least 6 months to run on my return from there. Renewed it quite quickly as you don't need all those signatures if it's just a renewal.

It depends how old you are. If you're an adult, it lasts 10 years. But, if you are a minor, the time is shorter.

for an adult, an american passport is good for 10 years.

If you are a teenager, I think it is good for less time (5 or 6 years) I think they do that because you can change alot from teenage years to adulthood or not. Maybe it's good ol' uncle Sam's way of squeezing more money out of us one way or another.

As previously posted: depends where you're from. An Aussie passport is valid for 10 yrs. Some European ones are valid for 5 yrs.
