Unless you drive at a very quiet time like early Sunday morning 4 to 5 hours. Virgin Trains on weekdays take only just over 2 hours and have some very cheap advance purchase fares. www.virgintrains.co.uk

Depends on the way you go - M6 anything from 3 hours to 10 hours.

It is 208 miles so it should take about 3 hours 42 mins

I've known people to do it in about 3 hours at quiet times but generally they've always left about 4 hours in case there is lots of traffic. Also remember that there are roadworks on the M1 between Junction 6 and Junction 10.

Snowlizard
Depends on the state of the M6

Best way if you are driving is to sleep during the day then travel in the early hours. You will do it in less than 3 hours.

The One

I dont know where all these other people are getting their figures from but i do the journey loads because i have family down south and it is at least 3 and a half hours on a GOOD day! Bearing in mind alot of people say they are from manchester when they are really not...its just the next closest city that people will have heard of, rather than say stockport...
