a great deal I am afraid, so check out local bus/train routes and fares - you may enjoy and find travelling in on pub transport viable (don't try Surrey though as services not top notch time-wise and VERY expensive) - have a word with the college bursar - they can be very helpful. Good luck petal with your studies and your expenses.

Well if you're not going for the luxuries then the only big differences between living in London and elsewhere are rent and transport costs.
A room in a shared house anything from £400 to £600 a month - probably plus another £100 in share of bills. If you want self contained then rent nearer £800 - £900 plus at least £200 bills.
This is based on a reasonable but not posh area in zones 2 or 3, so if you are travelling into central London everyday then add on £85 to £90 a month for travel expenses.
Hope this helps. |

If you are willing to flat-share then it can be fine but if you want somewhere on your own then you're looking at about £1000 a month including bills. For info on flat shares in London try www.gumtree.com |

An absolute fortune I'm afraid. And these days it doesn't even make a difference in different areas.
I think you should do some homework. Start off with researching places to live/stay in the area where your college is and then work from there adding on (if applicable) your regular financial committments such as gas, electricity, food.
If you're thinking of renting a room in London a few come 'inclusive' of bills such as the ones I mentioned above so it will make it a bit easier for you to figure it out.
But the sad truth is that London is now the most expensive place to live in Europe (and second in the world I believe).
However, the good thing is that as a student, you should be eligible for all kinds of student discounts etc that could make life a little more affordable. You just need to keep your eyes open. |
