I've been living in NYC for the past 3 years. I came from England but I really don't feel comfortable with American attitudes. Pls let me know if any other non-natives feel ...
I'm there for a week and I am aware of all the famous tourist attractions: Buckingham Palace, the Parks, the wax museum, the many many museums, the tower bridge, cathedrals etc..
but i have no idea , what i can make ... and we don't know London ... can you tell me , a place great for "st silvestre" .... we will live in nothing hill ... what append in london ...
the weather, the people, the landscape, the custom, the food, etc... Ten points and five stars for the most informative and reliable answers. Thank you so much....
This means that with the US amount you just half it to get the value in English pounds.
So, $1 is 50p in England.

It's worth about 50 cents. It is much more expensive in the UK than here. Some of them come here to shop because it is so much cheaper. Cab drivers go to Saks to buy suits. There was an article about that in the NY Times. You will see a price in pounds over there and it is the same price here in dollars, so half the cost.

It is my opinion that you really can't spend US dollars in the UK, first you must sell them to a dealer that specializes in the currency conversion process.
But roughly one US$ to one UK£, and depending on how big the transaction is, a commission for the change agent.
edit. It is more expensive to change US currency here in the USA, in my experience.

US dollar is worth $0.50 in UK
1 pound is worth 2 US dollars.

Basically everything in the UK is twice as much as it would be in the US.

About $2. So if something you want cost 20.00 British pounds then it's probably going to be $40.00. So it's double the amount. I use to live there for 2 years near Oxford. It's expensive living in England. But it's worth it buy things over there that you wouldn't find in the US.
