How much spending money for 10 days in Britain?, for meals, drinks, transportation?

I'll be traveling to Britain next month. I'm planning to stay in London for 3 days, York for 2 days and Edinburgh/ Glasgow for 5 days. .
I normally have 2 meals a day (Breakfast & a Full Lunch)
I'm traveling on a budget.
I wont drink everynight (or at least that's the plan).
I plan to travel by bus/train from and to each city. Any advise on this?

Hi!
The buses in London costs 2 pounds (without Oyster card, with Oyster card 97p). The Breakfast going to be from 4 pound to 6. You can have your lunch (if you eat too much, and if you want to spend not too much money, except sun. and sat.) in Pizza Hut's buffet ( costs max. 10 pounds with drink, salad and how much would you like pizza with different toppings (4.99 pound)) or normal restaurant which will cost you 20 pounds . Underground tickets costs here 5 pounds. You can buy daily card for the tube and use it all day for buses as well. Sorry, but I don't know anything about pubs and their prices. You will have to have more money to go to places like London Eye, Madame Tussaud's and so. By the way, all museums in London are free. I would advice you to go in of them and have fun. It's worth it.
About York. It is a fine place for travelling . Its an old city with historical buildings. Oh, if you will use Sightseeing in London you can use the same ticket for the Sightseeing in the York.
Good luck and have a nice journey.

The first answer from spiegy is way underestimating the costs. I don't know where he was last in London but it must have been a long time ago. If you are going to be in London you will be very lucky to get a sandwich for £2 or a full breakfast for £4. You should double all the prices he gave and then it will be closer to the real thing.

As for train tickets, unless you are going to buy them in advance online then you need to allow about £300 just for train travel alone. Buy your tickets in advance and you will save loads: http://www.thetrainline.com

I think you should allow £6 for breakfast and £10 for lunch each day.

Its very expensive - I went for a visit and stayed at my mums house for 14 days - I spent nearly $1500 about 760 pounds.
I would reccomend taking at least $2000 if not more.

It would be wise to have between 600 and 800 pounds. The UK is not so cheap unless U intend to stay at B & B's and dine at corner cafe's where the food is reasonable. In cafe's U need not tip anyone unless U are in a generous frame of mind. Scotland has changed a great deal.

May I suggest that U surf the net for lodgings and transport...they do travel cards for just that need for tourists.

Never show that U have a lot of money...it makes one a target for muggers etc. (I am not trying to scare U off from travelling here, it is like that in most countries)

Enjoy your stay

You will save a lot of money on rail fares by buying a Britrail Pass before arrival in Britain. www.britrail.com

first off don't stop in a hotel, look for a pub that does bed and breakfast, there are many that will do it for around 25 pound per person per night, so thats 250 pounds already, the train travel, well get a i'm not sure of the name but its a ticket that allows you to purchase trian tickets cheaper, go to www.trainline.com ( i think its .com, or it could be .uk)
beer varys in price depending where you buy it at,
bus is cheaper and if you have time is a good way to see the country, you can get an open end ticket which means you can get on at say london and get off pretty well where ever it passes through, just go on to google or yahoo and type in , bus travel in england, and browse
i'm sure you will have fun there, you ask how much money to take, well its better to use your debit card, but have $2000 in the bank, you dont have to spend it all, but you dont want to either run out of money or sleep rough,
DON'T buy british rail coffee, its aweful, truly aweful.
lunch or supper can vary, you really have to try the british fish and chips, a good meal, and fairly cheap.
a real buget vacation will cost about $1000, but as i say, DONT run yourself short, your a long way from home

Eating and accom. all over the UK is very expensive, so expect to spend big! How much is how well you like to eat and how nice you like your bedroom to be! I would suggest that you start off by doing a search on the net for places to stay to give you an idea of the cost of a place of the standard that you want.
If you are going to eat breakfast, a lot of places that you may stay will probably include this in the room price...
A main meal can be expensive, again dependant upon how much you eat and the quality of it. There are many places that do cheap food, but without transportation you may not be able to get to them easily, and if you get a taxi (very expensive in the UK) then you defeat the idea and may as well eat near where you are staying.
Drink, again in the UK, is expensive, and would recommend in moderation if its not to cost you a fortune. You could always buy some tins / bottles in a local supermarket and drink in your room if you want to save a few pennies.
If you travel by rail, buy food and drinks BEFORE the train, very expensive and poor quality on there. Also you can save a lot of money by booking your ticket in advance online, or even calling them to find out what discounts are available.
Coaches are cheap for the long distances but take FOREVER to get there, so only use them if its to save money...
Whatever you do... ENJOY!

I suppose it depends where you`re planning to eat breakfast and lunch ?? Everywhere here in Britain is about double the cost of the US - Hotels are expensive too. lots of luck..

Probably around £750 - i.e. $1,500. But it will vary according to your tastes and activities of course.

U.K. hotels are expensive and often charge per person per night rather than per room, so there is no saving by sharing a room.On the other hand there is an excellent hostel network with far cheaper prices although the accommodation is prone to be pretty basic. Get u.k.hostels up on your search bar and take a look.
Travel by rail can be costly again, coaches...long distance buses..are considerably cheaper with National Express being one of the biggest companies to travel with. As for food and drink..nothing is really cheap in the u.k.; you can expect to spend at least $12 a day one just two meals and should budget for $15..of course you can buy yourself some cold food in a supermarket to eat while you travel and that would save something.Allowing for drinks, travel and emergencies..$70 a day minimum, and that would be pushing it and does not include accommodation.

About £400/300 I'd say, if you wont buy any gifts/luxuries

You will need about £500 pounds $1000 dollars

Train tickets can be expensive £50-$100

£10 Per day for meals for 10 days £100 -$200

£20 for drinks $40

I think you could do it with $400 -£200 but it depends on where you stay and what you do here also

Whatever you pay in the USA in $ you can expect to pay in the UK in £. Such as if your lunch in the USA is $8.00 it will be £8.00 in the UK. Transport will be more expensive though due to the cost of fuel here...currently about $10 a gallon of petrol so you can see that bus and train companies will charge higher rates than in the states.

Average breakfasts £2.00 ish for sandwiches e.g. bacon sarnie.
Full cooked about £4.00.
Lunch plus coffee, I'd say about £6.00.
Cheap hotels probably about £44.00 per night.
No idea on travel costs.
