Take the Metro. I do believe there's a line going from MAN to Picadilly which is right in the centre of Manchester, my gran gets it sometimes. Expect to pay around £2 for a ticket.

Tizzie
There is a train that goes straight to the centre from the airport.

Christine P
trains run every few minutes to Manchester Piccadilly

Take the train , it is well sign posted to the station from all terminals . The trains do run evey few minutes so you will not wait long for a train . they go up to Piccadilly station , the adult fare is £2.90p single and £3.00 return . at Piccadilly just outside the station there is a free shuttle bus that will take you into town , they run every 10 minutes .
