if you keep your voice down you'll be all right I reckon.
Americans are perceived as "shouting" . If you moderate your volume, ( and refrain from getting into any form of political debate) you'll be all right.
The thing to be careful of is that people 2 or 3 tables away can be offended by loud american accents, especially Texas or louisiana ones for some reason.
You'll be fine! - and if you tell everyone you're a democrat, you will be popular. It's just a certain "type" of american who is unpopular. |

hopefully just as an english guy would be treated in America.
EDIT. a note to the offensive comment and finger sign from her maqerading as JB below. Most english football fans are illiterate scum and wouldnt even know the name of the US president and dont know or care where Iraq is, all they care aboit is the next beer and the next footbal fight,. so finger back to you and your cohorts. I have respect for any Americans who come to UK and i dont tarnish them all with the policies of their Government. you i hope will never set foot out of this country and if you might i would not mourn your lynching, but from a british point of view YOU ARE EXACTLY WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY **** AND YOU ARE A DISGRACE.
GO LIVE IN IRAQ AND THEN PLEAD TO ME HOW MUCH YOU WISH YOU COULD APPRECIATE MOONLIGHT IN VERMONT

I've been to both places several times without any problems because I am American.
Then again.....
I do my research before I take my trip and arrive PREPARED
I take a real interest in the places I go and the people I meet
I am not loud in inappropriate settings [metro, restaurants, etc]
I am aware of my surroundings and see how the locals do things [queue up, etc]
I don't complain about every gosh-darned thing
etc., etc., etc.
If you have basic good manners, you will be treated just fine. |

The same way as we treat every colour and creed, respect us and we give the same back. |

You'd be treated nicely :) but in my opinion some people think that all americans are the same: loud, overexaggerated, that sorta thing. I think Americans suffer being frequently misunderstood and stereotyped wrongly. |

Depending on what his/her attitude is.If he is jst gonna have a stereotypical american attitude and walk about thinking that they own the place and how "back home they do it like this" then they can piss off, we have enough of them here already.
Dont get me wrong I love america |

OK, but just make sure you don't wear a bum bag ( I believe you call them fanny packs) and checked golf trousers, or you'll be ridiculed. |

You'll be fine over here in England, I think we the Americans ok!
(were not too keen on the big, loud confident american accent though so maybe you should whisper!). |

I love Americans, I'm from near Stratford (where Shakespeare was from) and we get a lot of American tourists.
You should definitely visit! |

depends on which Brits you meet.
also you know how they always say that us Americans are so freaking loud, well that's the same with them, we have 2 new students here boy and girl, who are louder than a whole class put together! |

British people tend to be a bit more reserved than americans, we generally don't get the whole "I'm the best" attitude that you guys have, thats not a negative thing, we just don't have the same views of self confidence. alot of the time americans are viewed as being arrogant not self confident.
but you should be fine most people will be very friendly and eager to make friends |

Just be yourself, don't try to hard. Don't shout loud coz it makes you out to be a stereotype. Don't talk about politics or how you're distantly related to Irish/Scottish people from 5 generations ago. Nobody cares! |

Oo you'll be stared at on the Underground if you talk really loudly!... But if you're hott, im sure you'll be loved! =) |

if you have a really loud voice or an extremely strong accent, you may annoy some people because to us europeans it sounds phoney.but everyone loves americans and how they are a bit naive so you may be taken advantage of by salespeople and everything.
but i know a lot of people, including me, like americans but not the ones that have a stereotypical views of other cultures which a lot of americans do have, not their fault,it's because the live in a huge "umbrella" culture
you'll be fine! |

That would really depend on a. the American guy and b. the people that he met in the UK and Ireland. |

you should be fine, though ti really depends on where you go and what type of people you come across. ... It's the English in England that are treated the worst, any Foreigner is treated like royalty, so you will do just fine :-D |

It depends where abouts you visit. I have an American boy in my school and he's treated no different from everyone else except everyone comments on how cool his accent is. I personally love Americans but yeah if an American starts being really loud in a quiet place people get irritated and start tutting haha. |

Girls are a sucker for an American accent. Just open your mouth and you'll be well in there if you know what I mean nudge nudge wink wink |

I don't think Americans are well respected in a lot of place because of GW and is brilliant administration. I hate to admit it, but I have actually told people that I'm Canadian to avoid the problem. No one has a grudge toward Canada, eh? I'm not the only one I know that has done this. All three of my step kids did this. That's where I got the idea. The UK is beautiful! Go enjoy your trip and don't worry about what they think of you. |
