Aires69 is just an ar*se and beyond contempt for having a go at the questioner like that.
I was born, bred and spent the first 39 years of my life in Scotland. I am proud of my home country and nearly everything about it. One thing that does make me hang my head in shame though is the way that a minority of Scots treat our English neighbours. I have witnessed first hand people in Edinburgh giving some young English people a tough time because of where they are from. My Uncle is from Humberside was up visiting and we were out for a drink and whilst most people made him very welcome there were a couple who made smart ****, less than friendly remarks. They can't seem to separate real life from their moronic views about football. There is a bigotted slant against the English that is indoctrinated into many people north of the border when they are young. Thankfully most of us can separate sporting rivalry from the bigger picture as we grow up and mature but there are a significant number who don't. Any Scot who says that there isn't is just fooling themselves and they know it.
In the main most people are welcoming and friendly but for this Aires guy to say your question is stupid is just down right moronic as there has been precedence of trouble in the past. Let's put it this way, I would much rather be a Scot living in England than an Englishman living in Scotland. In the same light as a Scot I was on the receiving end of some less than welcoming actions during visits to London and other places and it would certainly not stop me going back. The same shold apply to you. The vast majority of people will welcome you with open arms and they are the ones who matter, so go and enjoy yourself.
No doubt some of the Daily Record reading, 'fitba' mentality types will not agree with me but then again they are just the sort that I am talking about and tarnish a great country. |

Yeah you will be fine. As a scots myself.. we hate the fat too small england shirt wearers that swill beer around everywhere and shout awwwwright darling. and leer at you. But that of course is a stereotype and not everyone feels that way anyway.

Edinburgh is a good choice. I'm English and I love going to Scotland, they are very friendly people up there and it is a lovely place to be. I'm going to retire there in about 30 years hopefully! |

Of course you'll be made welcome.
Edinburgh is indeed a beautiful city but why not see some of the fantastic scenery as well? For that, you would be hard pushed to beat Argyll.
Take a look at the site below to see what I mean... |

Depends. You sound like a knobhead to me for asking the question. [shrugs] Do you somehow think you are at greater risk of being mugged or being stabbed or something? Your question is more than just a little insulting to the Scots methinks. Slight apologies for calling you a knob but I think you see where I'm coming from - your question is as insulting as my answer really.
EDIT:
____
I hang my head in shame as apparently I am an ar5e. Oh well, I'm sure I can live with it bravely somehow. Tomorrow is another day. [sighs heavily yet somehow bravely] |

Hi, some of my ancestors are Scottish in fact, I am a member of the Cameron Clan and proud of it. My Scottish family welcomed us with open arms and not all of us are Scottish. My husband is Portuguese and he was made quite welcome and I am also part English. Please don't assume that just because you are English, you will not be welcome.
My family and I travelled to Scotland from Canada last year.
We had a great time; We rented a car and toured on our own and actually loved the people and the scenery. We ventured off to Oban and fell in love with the town. The sunsets there are beautiful.
We also visited the Trossacks, Glasgow, Stirling, Loch Lommond, Luss, and many more wonderful places.
A stop in Edinburgh, touring the castle was great until we went back to our car. Unfortunately, some individuals decided to break into our car by smashing a window. This caused us a lot of grief. They really didn't get much, just some of my clothes. We had to wait for someone from Glasgow to repair the glass so we spent several hours in the castle parking lot waiting.
That was the only disappointing part of our trip. Mind you, this could have happened to us right in our own city in Canada as well, therefore, I am not angry with the general population of Edinburgh...just the individuals who broke into our car.
We loved our trip to Scotland and the UK in general and we are planning to go back next summer. We are planning to drive up to Inverness and tour up in the North. I also want to see Loch Ness and I am planning a return trip to Oban.
I hope that this helps. |

All you need is money/cash/dibs/moolah. That's all the Scots are interested in. When you've been there for a while, you'll get the impression that, tomorrow there'll be signs up that say, "Leave yer wallet an' gang awa' hame." |
