I'm an American citizen. When I turn 18, could I legally drink in the UK?

This is under the assumption that Britain's laws don't change and that I am in the country legally (valid passport and everything).

Yup. You just have to follow the laws for what country you are in.

Yes.

basta,

Seems to me that you're willing to travel a loong way to get to a pint of ale. The beer there is great, but still...

Someone here suggested Canada. I don't know the drinking age there, but if it's 18, I'd go there first. Some good beer in Canada too, and you'll spend less PER beer there, as well as not spend nearly as much getting there and back.

Mexico is another consideration. I've never had a bad Corona. Talk about cheap, too!

07_ShelbyGT500
Yes, you can. In fact, anywhere in Europe you will be able to drink at the age of 18.

Come sooner: if you're 16 you can legally buy beer or cider (and wine here in Scotland) as long as you're having it with a meal. (You have to wait til 18 to buy a drink at the bar.)

Come on over! You can buy a beer in a bar, no problem. When you are in the UK, UK rules apply.

So that also means you drive on the left when you are here ;)

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When you're in the UK you are under their jurisdiction and not that of the US. you can do anything that does not offend their laws. Americans can go to Amsterdam and smoke marijuana if they want and not worry about being prosecuted once they get home. If you go to Germany you can drink beer when you're only 16. Enjoy yourself!

senoritaboston
of course, you're in that contry, you follow their rules...drink up!
