If you are at all interested in History, you must see the Tower of London ....lots of famous and infamous people, including several of Henry VIII's wives, were executed there; there is also a superb collection of armor and the Crown Jewels are there.Architecturally, the Tower is a whole lotta rock and purely awesome! They offer a really good tour. Be sure to check out the ravens while you are there.
If Art is your passion, then the Tate Britain (National Museum) or any of the other Tate Galleries is going to fill up your head and your heart. The National has been amassing art since 1500. Beautiful, beautiful stuff!
Honestly? You really should make a point of seeing both of these.
Bon Voyage!

One thing I would not miss is the British Museum.

Lived outside of London for 3 years and all the major attractions are terrific: Tower of London, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Westminister Cathedral, St. Paul's, Harrod's, National Gallery, etc.
Also recommend "Tower Hill Pageant" tells the history of London.
Plus, ride the Tube (the Underground) and go to a small dark noisy pub and have pub grub with the locals! enjoy...

The ONE thing you must do is the London Eye.

The Tower is a close second - crown jewels, beheadings and the ravens (who are employed by the crown and paid a salary to stay at the Tower - naughty ones get sacked!).

I've been to most of the museums there, and one that really stands out that isn't as well known as some of the others is the Imperial War Museum. It was really interesting, and lots to look at.
