A True Gentleman

I'm have to "oop-North" for a while, but the place seems so grim and hopeless that I'm worried, should I be?

Additional Details
The place is Harrogate, is it ok?

No, you don't need to be worried. Not unless you actually say things like that in public while your here. Then you may well end up with the proverbial "thick ear".

With your attitude - YES

Yes it is as bad as it seems, invest in some decent hand made shoes while still down here as walking on the cobbles is murder on the feet, buy yourself a decent umbrella so that the soot and grime that is everywhere does not damage your hair. Get a phrasebook so that you don't inadvertently order deep fried sheep's entrails at a "chippy" or some thick sweet warm frothy stuff instead of proper beer in a "poob" as I think they call pubs. Buy a cheaper car than you normally drive as a decent prestige marque can bring some of those towns to a stand still as we discovered when we drove our 4X4 in to Lincolnshire, the poor mites with their filthy urchin children couldn't carry on with visiting Morrison's and the Co-op, nor drag themselves in to Betty's teashop for looking at our shiny car. I do not envy you it is going to be hellish for you, good luck!

not at all like the picture you have been painted, here in Lancs,we have the sun 365 days a year, but it is usually behind the clouds for most of the time.would not trade it for any other place.
And they all speak proper likeas what I do

Harry Callaghan
Yes you should be worried as you've obviously been hanging around the wrong places.

I'd get back down to the glorious south if I were you maybe Tower Hamlets or Slough if you want somewhere truly inspiring.

Are you sure you are grown up enough to go out alone, never mind the harrowing journey and hellish stay you have planned.

Flippin eck! Where's me flat cap and me whippets? Mother, get your shawl and clogs on and get me some tripe or cow heel for me tea.

You have to be a soft Southerner who thinks anyone north of Watford still paint themselves with Woad and wear skins
I have seen far grimmer sights around parts of London than I have ever seen in Manchester Leeds or Newcastle.

Look on the bright side.
Go back south, with your attitude, you wont be welcome anywhere in the north.

People in Harrogate are absolutely great.

Until sheltered southern toffs start whinging about them being 'grim' and oh how ghastly look at the filthy northerners.

Vivi
Anywhere's better than London mate. I've been to Harrogate before, can't remember much of it though because I was blind-drunk at the time.

Harrogate is nice, the people are pleasant.

Past Watford and its Indian Territory. When u come across dozens and dozens of nuts in their bed-shirts and wearing white little hats walking next to short fat mobile fully black clothed Guinness bottles, with 2 slits in head scarfs to see where they're going - then you know your heading into real trouble!

In the event the big nut shows up (u can always tell) hes wearing a black turban and always got his hands behind his ears, mouthing off and screaming foul incoherent mutterings - then beat it for all your worth!

Police won't help you, they're not even allowed in there!
