As everyone else has mentioned, you generally need to go to Liverpool Street Station as that's where the Stansted Express (train) runs from. It costs about £15 and takes about 45 mins. Keep in mind that the underground does not run 24 hrs so if you are going to Liverpool Street Station either early in the morning (ie before about 6 am) or late in the night (ie after about midnight), you will need to find another way to get to Liverpool Street Station.

The cheaper option is to get a bus to Stansted airport. Both National Express (www.nationalexpress.com) and Terravision (www.terravision.it) run buses from Central London directly to the airport. This is a bit slower than the Stansted Express (about 10-15 min slower I think) but is half the price at £7. The buses are also less frequent than the Stansted Express but they run earlier in the morning and later at night. The buses run from Victoria or Liverpool Street Station.

Take the tube from Waterloo (The Waterloo and City Line) to Bank station and change. Get the central line to Liverpool Street Station and then get the Stanstead Express Train. It will take about an hour in total.

Stanstaed Express....Easy-Easy

Abelard
Waterloo-Bank (Waterloo & City Line only on weekdays, 4 min.)
Bank-Liverpool Street (Central Line, 2 min.)
Liverpool Street-Stansted (Stansted Express, 42 min.)

Allow around 5 min. to change on the underground, but there is a bit longish walk at Bank Station between the two lines I mention (especially if travolator is not working), and bear in mind that Stansted Express goes every 20 min. (peak) and every 30 min. (off-peak). The railway station at Stansted is right beneath the airport itself.

Visit the Transport for London website and use the journey planner.

Barry Salter
Take the Bakerloo (Brown) Underground line Northbound (heading towards Harrow & Wealdstone) from Waterloo to Oxford Circus.

At Oxford Circus, it's a cross-platform interchange to the Victoria (Light Blue) line Northbound (towards Walthamstow Central).

Alight at Tottenham Hale, from where you can take the Stansted Express direct to Stansted Airport.

Total journey time should be around an hour.

You need to go to Liverpool street station and get the stansted train from there, so you need to go by tube and then train, it takes quite a while, beware.

Go from Waterloo East to London Bridge on Southern or South Eastern Trains. Then change onto Northen Line to Bank. Then change onto Central Line to London Liverpool
Street, and then take the Stansted Express to Stansted Airport. It will be expensive.

Felidae
Via liverpool street. First stage on the tube then catch the train.

It'll take you a minimum of one and a half hours - but assume two.

Avalon
won,t that be nice
