For plenty of job opportunities it really has to be the south east (London, home counties) and possibly the M4 corridor.
Unfortunately housing is much more expensive and the landscape not always so impressive as further west/north, but in terms of making a living it's probably your best bet.... |

If you can't do London, look at Manchester. It has fantastic transport links to the rest of the UK as well as England's second largest airport. |

Bristol. M4 Corridor, growing town, hot real estate tip, plenty big enough for job and nightlife opportunities, handy to everywhere, international airport.
I'm from Australia and I live in the UK now and I live in Bristol and it rocks. I've lived in Bath and near Exeter and I'd take Bristol every time. |

The further north you go the cheaper things get.
