I Cannot Afford A House in London.?

Can anyone suggest an area I could move to which has cheap property prices but which also has quick transport links to London where I need to commute in order to work?

The simple answer to your question is Ashford in Kent.

Property prices are much lower than they are in London and they are even cheap by Kent standards.

Best of all in 2009 the fast link to London will come into use. At present it takes commuters 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach London. In 2009 it will take just 40 minutes!!

While property is overvalued in the rest of the south east it is the general concensus among experts that property prices are likely to rise significantly in Ashford in the next five years as more and more people move to this area from London in order to buy affordable housing.

Try Redhill, Surrey. 30 mins into London Victoria, frequent trains, you can get a 2-bed house for £180K. a 3-bed house for £220K.
Close to lovely countryside too, and Gatwick airport, and just 30 mins drive from the coast

Depends on where you will be working in London And how much money you want to spend on travel.

Try somewhere in Kent like Dartford.

Grantham has cheap property prices and GNER trains to King's Cross in the centre of London only take 1h15min.

The season ticket will cost you a fortune though.

Kent is a popular county for commuters into London.

Or try Watford, Tring, Hemel Hempstead, or Milton Keynes, St Neots.

Try renting in Farnham surrey, there is a direct train into London Waterloo and takes approx 1 hr. Houses to rent there are about £400 a month so quite affordable.

try them out at: www.mann&co.com

Grays in Essex was fairly cheap, but it is a little dismal (sorry to all Grays residents)

Depends how much you can afford:

Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Tring, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Bicester.

Google train times and see how long it will take.

I heard a tale of a bloke who commuted daily from Goole in Humberside so anythings possible with a good train line
