It depends. I live in California and have only been to England once, but I have a tendency to talk with an English accent (mostly this is after watching Doctor Who for three hours straight). But do expect to adopt a lot of British terms like lorry (truck), lift (elevator), loo (toilet), bullocks (its a swear word) in your vocabulary. |

No you will develop an English Accent,
What is a British Accent?
The British are The Scottish, English & Welsh altogether. |

If you have an "ear" for mimicking sounds or accents and pick up on them easily, you might develop a slight accent. To native Londoners, you'll certainly still sound American, but your friends and family back home might notice a bit of a difference.
[By the way, the above answerer is right - there isn't technically such a thing as a "British" accent, as Britain consists of England, Scotland, and Wales, all of which have their own distinctive dialects.] |

If you spend too much time in London, you will end up not speaking English, just like Londoners.
If you can get outside the M25 Orbital Motorway you will meet people you can converse with much more easily. |

You Americana's always ask this question!! LOL! My answer always remains the same. You will not lose your accent. However, over time (years!) you will start to develop new words and phrases as you socialise with a new group of people (in your case English). This can have an affect on your existing accent and that will change but only slightly. You will only realise this when you return to the US. But give it a week and your US accent will be strong again! |

i totally agree with "qpr26" you wont develop a london accent suddenly over night.
maybe after years of speaking.
however, you might be able to speak the words they speak or speak "slang" however some certain words might just be a give away.
btw whats wrong with an american accent. |

Probably not because your older and you tend to only develop accents when you move somewhere when your young. But you may begin to use different words in your dialogue to fit in with everyone. :) have fun at college! |
