Firstly in answer to your question:
Off the top of my head things to do and places to see in London:
Ice Skating in Queensway, Bowling in Picadilly, Skiing [dry sky slope], go visit the London Eye, Madam Tussauds, Hyde Park, The London Dungeons, the Science Museum, The Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Go to the West End, Hagen Dazs Leicester Square, Hamleys Toy Store, Harrods, The Millennium Bridge, St Paul's, Green Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Visit the massive arcade in Picadilly and go Bungee assisted trampolining, Go see the Gherkin, Take a boat ride on the Thames, Go Horse riding in Hyde Park, Go shopping in Oxford Street, Regent Street, Bond Street, Sloane Square.
I left Ireland a year ago and came to London for University, I have never been bored.
Secondly on a personal note:
To Phil the Manc who says London is Arrogant I am sorry for your misconception but Londoners don't mean to seem arrogant. If anything they are the most down to earth people you can meet, [Maybe the suits in canary wharf can be a little up in themselves but with a seven figure salary you would be too]
I have never had a Londoner be rude to me if anything they are quite polite, and if anything the only people in London whoa re rude are those who don't live there. People who live in London have coem to accpet with a city popultaion of 8m and a Metropoliton population of 18m its impossible to know everyone and take an interest in everything you learn to live in your own world and focus on your own things, thats proably why many people come to London to find themselves.
We are Londoners, We are one is a campaign which ran in London and it sums up the whole atitude of people in London, we are here and we all have to live our lives so we hold mutual respect for each other. |

You will love London it's a bustling living heaving place of fun. It's got the lot and if you get home sick you can go watch a GAA game 'Lot's of social clubs we even import Kimberly biscuits and white pudding. Why have you not visited before, I know you're scared you'll stay.
Seriously look on the London transport site for tours or visit the Whats on in London website. Thorpe park is a must don't worry if it rains as you'll get soaked anyway (bit pricey though) Have Fun |

You will have a fabulous time - buy a guide book or look at the websites already suggested for information
Blend museums with shopping, sight seeing, trips to parks etc etc etc - theres so much to do. Its best to read up beforehand so that you can direct things and have plans in place for when it rains.
Personally for children I would recommend going to the science museum, the natural history museum, imperial war museum, greenwich observatory and meridian line, tate modern, london eye, tower of london, camden town and market
and walking around central london to the houses of parliament, buckingham palace, covent garden, piccadily, hyde park, shopping in oxfrod street. Plus of course a river trip and if they're interested in sports you could go to the arsenal stadium, wimbledon, wembley etc etc.
I would recommend going of the beaten track slightly away from the standard tourist sites - so things like the Brixton lido, clapham common, battersea park zoo.
I'm sure theres loads more things you can do - certainly enough for a week |

Have a look at the "London Pass"
The cards get you into the main sites at favourable prices and covers cost of transport around the city.
I hope this helps. |

places to visit in London and things to do:
The Museum of Childhood (Bethnal Green-right outside Bethnal Green tube) Its a toy museum, and is free to get in.
The Tower of London (Tower Gateway DLR or Tower Bridge Tube)
Jack the Ripper walks (Google these as they have varied start times. You can go and see all the places where the Ripper carried out his murders)
London Zoo (and St. James' Park, where you can see the changing of the guards as well)
London Dungeon
Canary Wharf and the Museum in Docklands free to get in!(Canary Wharf DLR) while you're in the Docklands area you can check out where all the old docks were and learn all about what trades went on, as well as see all the buildings, including Canary Wharf Tower itself. Also, get on the DLR and get to Mudchute station. Then go to Millwall Park and visit our cute little farm. It's actually a bit bizarre having a farm right there, but you can get ths children horse riding and petting the animals before stopping in the Pier pub for lunch. YUM!
The Greenwich Foot Tunnel and Observatory (Get off the DLR at Island Gardens, and then walk through the tunnel) OR you can just get off the DLR at the Cutty Sark, if you don't fancy going through the tunnel!
The London Eye
The London Aquarium
St. Paul's Cathedral free to get in! (St. Pauls Station. You can also walk to the Tate Modern Art Gallery from here which is always fun)
The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum and and Victoria and Albert Museums, all free entry and all based five minutes from South Kensington Tube
London's steeped in history and has some beautiful architecture-take a look at Temple Church, (get off at Temple Tube station) the Houses of Parliament and St. Stephen's Tower. These are both lcated at Westminster Station (The bell inside the tower is known as....Big Ben!) |

There are an estimated 36,000 things to see in London so I doubt very much that you will be fed up after two days.
I have lived here for 5 years and every weekend I have something to see or do. |

There is plenty to do here, the science and natural history museums will entertain all ages- and have free entry.
The National Gallery on Trafalgar Square has activities for children, and being able to see some fantastic paintings is amazing.
You can travel on the river buses and sight see at the same time.
Get pre paid oyster cards to get about. Get to Canary Wharf and to Greenwich on the DLR.
St Pauls is an amazing building too.
Get to Camden, walk along the canals.
Three days will leave you wanting more.
I have lived here for ten years and love the place.
Have fun! |

would you go to Dublin for a week or just a day?......i am not from London and don't know really what tourists do there for a whole week...i guess if you are set on seeing all the famous things then you could do it at your leisure in that time ..not sure your kids would really like trailing round shops etc .....did you know there are hundred of thousands of Irish live in London? and many many Irish pubs .......i suggest a day in London would be fine and enough for the kids then off to the coast.hire a car and go somewhere different each day.....i live in Lincoln which is very historic and is really a nice place to be..york..cambridge..also are nice.....the resort of Skegness is wonderful for kiddies as is Scarborough....to the south of England there is Weymouth and Portland in Dorset and Newquey in Cornwall......the further north you go the cheaper your stay but the south coast is fantastic ......you all should visit England at least once.......i am 53 and going to Ireland in september for the first time with my girlfriend who is from Austria and we will do exactly as i have said to you..tour round and see the country...i've heard it is wonderful |

Try the rest of the UK. London is full if arrogant, self centred, Muppet's. and the city is overrated.
Try The North of England, Scotland or Wales. |
