Yes, it annoys me, but I'd hate being called "European" more!
NB. Mwa Ha Ha! The Cornish must never be called British or English. They are a race apart, and subject to their own rules. I'm married to one!

deedee192
What annoys me is being called English when I am Scottish

I live in the US. most Americans refer to me as that British guy, but I am not bothered, call me English or British, it's all the same.

I don't like it when some ask me what part of Australia I am from, but that is another story LOL.

No, I'm British and Welsh, don't mind either. I live in Greece but hate it when people call me English though, they think wales is in England and no matter how much I explain, they won't have it that it's a separate country!!

MR Controversial
I am english and proud of it i was born in Hertfordshire which is in England not scotland, ireland or wales but bloody good England so yes i hate being called british

kitty
I hate it when Americans call me European or British i`m ENGLISH born and bread and that`s all there is to it

silentnonrev
No! If you are English, you are British too, and that's what your passport says. Get over it....if you were Scottish and being called English, that would be different!

Puds111
I like British better, because it's manly to be british, plus, we live in both England and Britain.

Angel
Yes i hate being called British,
I am English first,
Scots on the whole like to be called Scottish, not British,
The Welsh always like to be called Welsh, not British,

It's mainly the TV/Media & the Government who always call the English, British, ( just see when you watch the TV or read a Newspaper )
And this labour government never utters the Word England.
Gordon Brown is trying to wipe England off the Map, by breaking England up into regions, WHY?

Are you also one of those people who doesn't think a Scottish MP should be allowed to become Prime Minister as well?
I don't understand your viewpoint. WHY does it bother you?

chemicalbro100
i prefer being called scottish rather than british

mind u it doesnt bother me that much

Bonn* Love is a Disease..
yeh! im not scottish irish or welsh just plain english!

Ollie
No it doe's not bother me although I always say I am English.

Bloke Ala Sarcasm
No. And why should it?

I come from the country of England, but my nationality is British. I, like you, live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. And it has been that way for over 300 years.

Even before that, the country of England had technically not existed for 400 years when the countries of England and Wales became named simply "England and Wales" under Edward I.

So I'm sorry, how ever much it upsets you, you are not English. Neither were many of your ancestors.
You're British.

Live with it.

Yes, it does. I am English!

jenniferward99@btinternet.com
yes it does, I find it increasingly annoying that forms now change it from English to British. The other parts of the U.K. have autonomy why not us, why do our taxes go to them when they can legislate what to do with their revenues

I should be doing something else
Well I'm from Northern Ireland so am normally referred to as Irish / Northern Irish, or British - I don't mind which, and use all of them myself as I identify myself as being part of both the British and Irish culture and hertitage, but when I'm on holiday I only ever use Irish, as if I was to say British people would automatically assume that that meant English and think less of me for it. (This is not meant to offend anyone, I have no problem with the English at all, but they have a pretty bad name for themselves outside the UK)

i hate it too british sounds stuck up and remind me of the stereotypical view of english people drinking tea and saying "spiffing" and "golly"

I hate being called "American"! I'm United Statian!

Does this annoy you?

There you go. A native or inhabitant of any of the countries of North, South, or Central America are Americans, but I don't get offended and they don't get offended for being left out. I'm sure Canadians and Peruvians don't have a problem with it.

Veronica Alicia
Born in England, a Welsh grandmother and a Scottish Gt. grandmother.
Plus a couple of Frenchies back in the early 1600's but we don't talk about them!
So I guess I'm inherently a Brit.

I was born in Hong Kong, my Dad was born in Liverpool and my Mum was born in Edinburgh, so i think that definitely makes me British!!!!

vegasqueen1970
I'm the opposite, I hate being called English! I'm British but I was born and live in Guernsey in the Channel Islands therefore I am British but Guernsey is not part of England, therefore I am not English!

When I'm on holiday I'm always being asked if I'm English and I get confused looks when I say no, but I am British.

Isn't it the Cornish that hate being called English or something? I love England and I am English/British or whatever. Technically I'm half Cornish, but I'm a Canadian citizen, born in Canada, raised in Canada but oh boy I wish I lived in England!

YES it really annoys me.

I was born in England, have always lived in England and do NOT want to live anywhere else.

When I receive any letters with United Kingdom or Britain written on them, they get returned to the person who sent them with a message written on the envelope saying 'NO SUCH PLACE'.
