I don't think this question was asked in anger at all. He was voicing a common observation. A lot of Americans are not very educated when it comes to subject matter outside of the States. That may offend some but I have noticed it too & having worked with a lot of Americans in different countries they have told me the same. The UK IS made up of four countries for the sake of Cherry who just proved the point.

I've never heard so much tosh in my life. What's this rubbish about Scotland & Wales being part of England?. And we didn't lose ANY wars. Ever. We didn't fight in Vietnam.

I know Wales.
I don't refer to the UK as just England.
Yes, I know Ireland is not part of the UK.

But I do know lots of people who don't know that stuff.

First of all, you need to calm down. Why are you so angry? Second, you can't group all Americans into a box full of people who don't unerstand what countries make up the UK. I for one do not refer to the UK as England because I do know that there is more to the UK than England. Some Americans are ignorant just as some Europeans are ignorant. So please think a little more about your questions before you ask them and don't ask questions out of anger it just makes you sound childish.

The habit of referring to Britain as England and England as Britain did not emerge in the USA - you need to look a lot closer to home for that one :o)

you need to do some more research in Geography.
The reason why so many Americans get confused is because, Britain has so many names, the United kingdom for one, Great Britain, and England.
I am 100% British and also call England by different names.

Wales and Scotland are not countries, they are all part of England. Northern Ireland however, is a different country.
