get the local paper, visit the local library and tourist information office and find whats happening around you and then get out there, you will soon start to find new friends as long as you are friendly. |

Yes, London is huge and can feel very isolating if you don't have a network of friends here to support you. You need to find some kind of network or community here you can feel part of. There have already been some excellent suggestions -how about starting a new hobby, either in an informal club or at a night school or part-time course? Do you like to be out of London and in the country? Well maybe you can join a walking or orienteering club and enjoy some weekends away with other people. Or how about doing an evening course at Birkbeck or somewhere? You need to find your place in London a little bit, and to do that you'll have to be bold and go out and try and meet more people and get involved in the communities around you! Good luck! Hx |

I don't know if you watched Melvin Bragg last night but his pr gramme took you back through the ages of living in London. My God how people survived especially those living in the East End in the 17 & 18 centuries. However, this is how London is acknowledged worldwide to be the greatest city on the world warts and all because of the diverse population living there.
I would have thought you would have so much to do but then do we ever appreciate what is on our own door step. Are you interested in sports, amatuer dramatics, reading, walking.... you need to take advantage of this diversity and get out into you community and mix with other folk. This will not only enrich your life but it will be a way of making new friends.
None of should reply on our loved ones entirely for company and friendship.
All the best.....and cheer up the light nights are here so why not go out people watching. |

Yes London is a very lonely place and is known for it. why not find accommodation where there are a lot of people of your own age group to live in so that you can make friends. Some of the houses in the Earls Court and Barons Court areas have many students living in them so that might help. You could also go to some classes yourself during winter and make friends there....or go to the library and sit with the readers and discuss books if you are interested in that sort of thing. |

if you join something you can make instant friends thats what i always do when i want new friends or im in a new area. it doesnt have to be time consuming either, maybe a half hour exercise class, or an art class. i know how you feel i used to have trouble with that as well and the good thing is you get to try a lot of fun activities while your making new friends. good luck! |

I moved out of London for various reasons. And now I miss it a lot. As I feel lonely where I live now. and didn't feel lonely ever there I found the people warmer and was able to chat to someone at the supermarket bus stop or any where. Give it a try |

Joining a Church is good place to foster friendship, you get a lot of people that respect you and take you as family without necessarily getting over bearing. There are exciting things to learn as well, it will open you to a whole lot than you can imagine. God bless you. |
