I maybe be moving to Liverpool with my family. Can anyone please tell me what are the nicest areas to live in?

There are plenty of nice places on the Wirral which is very near to Liverpool. In Liverpool itself, Woolton, Calderstones and Gateacre are nice but pricey. There are many, many nice places - it's best to come and see!

Ignore the negative comments - there are some idiots who like to come to the Liverpool pages just to slag it off - the truth is, they've probably never even been to Liverpool - if they had been they would know that their comments are utterly infantile and futile.

there are lots of nice places in liverpool the negetive responses you see are from people who have never been there and would not have the guts to say it to a scouser face to face

Liverpool has the lowest crime rate of any big city in the UK, but I doubt that a FACT like that will ever disarm you of your obnoxious prejudices. You are more likely to be a victim of crime, violence and vehicle theft when you walk out of your front door than you ever will in Liverpool.

Best Places in Liverpool City are Woolton, Gateacre (pronounced gataker) Childwall (prn chilled-wall) Aigburth (prn egg-birth) Cressington, Calderstones, Allerton and West Derby. The new developments in the city centre are very nice especially One Park West.

Outside the city, the Lancashire coast from Crosby, up through Formby to Southport. Ormskirk is nice. The Wirral is popular with many nice Villages like Thornton Hough, and some commute from as far as Chester.

In Liverpool (some contributers seem to have a sketchy idea of geography) Childwall Calderstones Mossley Hill there are others but I think they are the best. I'm scared in Chester at night (not in Liverpool) and the wirral is in parts quite nice but dead

It rather depends what you mean by 'nicest' and what it is you are looking for in terms of house/flat, size of house, gardens, public transport, convenience, etc.

Could we have more details about what you're after?

Also price must be considered. South Liverpool as mentioned above is ceratinly the most overpriced, partularly along what estate agents and planners have termed 'The Aigburth Corridor'.

On the other hand you get a heck of a lot more house and garden for your money in Wirral, particularly in Birkenhead which is 5 mins from the centre of Liverpool on the train.

Formby! Its 12 miles up the coast and a great place to live.

The Wirral is great, easy access to Liverpool by train and road.

Deeside towns such as West KIrby, Heswall and Neston / Parkgate are very good places to live. You8 get the benefits of living by the sea in the first two,

If you like walking by the sea, watersports, birdwatching, playing golf, or just having a good life, then Wirral is for you. Liverpool provides the work and excellent culture, art galleries, concerts etc.

Lots of villages outside Liverpool are popular. I like Crosby for good schools and residential area.
The problem with other answers is just the cost of the suburbs, and chester even the charity shops are expensive! But it is a lovely city.
If you like the city and enjoy multi-cultural then you have plenty of choice, get some estate agent details and read the Liverpool echo online.

oh the irony.

anfield was a nice place to live but we lived near-ish to the football grounds and you had to stay in for a good couple of hours before and after the match so no one would take your parking spot and force you to stay out. huyton is a horrible place but some places closer to dovecot are okay. page moss is horrible though. old swan is okay as far as i know and up green lane. there's a lot of schools in old swan as well and the tescos and tuebrook shops. st helens is a nice place to live too - just not parr. some of these places aren't even in liverpool but are close. all i can recommend is that you go to the area you are moving to at all times day and night a few times to see what it is like because it is often really nice during the day and noisy or whatever at night. so yes, have fun. =]]

Wirral....definitely. Good transport routes. Near the sea. Lovely countryside. Historic towns and cities, great shopping. Some of the nice places to live are Chester, Heswall, West Kirby, Hoylake, Upton, Greasby.

Failing that, you could pick up a nice town house in Granby (Toxteth L8) for about £3.50
